Was looking on ebay and found this device

Can not for the life of me see how it would benefit sleep apnea.

I'm pretty sure this would have no effect on OSA, since there's no positive airway pressure--don't think I'd waste money on this.

It's for cpap patients who tape their mouths shut. After you get your mouth taped, just cram this through the tape so you can breathe through your mouth.

Scuba gear for sale as "therapy" device

Post by DragonFire » Tue Dec 25, 2007 7:21 pm

Looks like a mouth piece for scuba diving gear (I am a certified tech diver).
It cost 2 or 3 bucks in rubber and 5-25 in silicon or thermoplastic material for added comfort. The filter material is just a pitch to sell it for what it is not and I am afraid it pose an ingestion risk as it appears to be mounted.

Oh yeah, this thing is definitely a mouthpiece from either a regulator or snorkel used in SCUBA diving. This is just another gimmick! Sleep apnea is a blocking of the airway in your throat. This thing will most likely not help at all, it might even make things worse.

The filter stuff does look like more of a hazard than a help. To me this whole thing seems designed to separate you from your money and nothing more.

Traveling sucks... Traveling with CPAP blows.

I'd rather be diving, then it is a good thing to breathe through your mouth.
