Since you have the Plus machine, your card will only report how many hours you've slept.

Actually, your situation may not be all that uncommon. There were some work-related issues when I started, but I had to kind of "work up" the number of hours I was sleeping. You are also getting more oxygenated sleep time now than you were before and probably feel like you're rested after 5 hours.

Lots of learning curves for the mind and body when starting this therapy.

Baby steps.....

Deebra, has anyone from your sleep lab contacted you since you got your equipment? Or did they schedule you for a follow up appointment? Did you ever see a sleep doctor or were you just referred to the sleep clinic and your data from your sleep evaluation and titration sent to your referring doctor for him to write the order for your equipment?

If I were you, I would contact whichever doctor wrote your equipment order and tell him that you are still having problems and not sleeping any better or longer than prior to starting CPAP. Your doctor can't help you if he doesn't know you are having problems.

You might also want to consider asking him if he is aware that your DME supplier provided you w/a compliance data only CPAP that will not provide him w/any data to help determine what problems you are having or any data to help him determine what adjustments to your CPAP therapy might be needed. Tell him that you are uncomfortable w/that and the thought that he will have to go by guess and by gosh trying to determine the cause and any adjustments that might be necessary. Tell him you would be much more comfortable if you had a Respironics M Series Pro w/C-Flex that would provide the data regarding your pressure provided during the night, the leak rate you encountered during the night and your AHI, AI and HI so that he could more quickly and better determine what adjustments need to be made. You might also "suggest" that you are discouraged and w/o seeing any improvement are reconsidering whether CPAP is really going to help you or not, or whether a second opinion might not be to your advantage. IF you are going to switch this current Respironics M Series Plus w/C-Flex for a fully data capable CPAP such as the Pro it needs to be done NOW, SOON.

You've established compliance and proven your willingness to give CPAP a try. But you are running out of time now, after 30 days, to be able to switch to a fully data capable CPAP.

I would also ask for a copy of the dictated results (about 1-2 pages) AND FULL DATA SUMMARY REPORTS (about 5-6 pages w/graphs) from both your sleep evaluation AND your titration studies as well as a copy of your equipment order (script). This will reinforce that you are trying, that you are willing to keep trying and just might really be thinking of getting a second opinion.

IF you can't get a timely appointment then write a letter and send it CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED. This provide PROOF of your request that they really can't ignore. You have a legal right to this information as it is part of your medical records to which you have a legal right under the HIPAA law.

I would also contact your local DME supplier's RT and tell them you are getting discouraged, that you are doing no better on CPAP than you were doing before starting CPAP therapy and are thinking of returning the equipment since you aren't seeing any benefit.

There is not a whole lot we can do to help you w/o some data from your machine regarding your leak rate w/that mask and what AHI, AI and HI numbers you are encountering except by guess and by gosh, same as your sleep doctor.

The most likely problem is that despite you're not being aware of any leaks w/your mask, you most likely are encountering some major leaks during the night. These could be due to air escaping from your lips during the night and/or the mask shifting as you change sleep positions. The leak rate would tell us that and there are remedies and "fixes" that sometimes help.

It would help us to know just exactly which mask you are using. Why not click on Profile at the top of the page, scroll down near the bottom of the next page and click on the CPAP and the mask you are using. Do you have a humidifier for your CPAP? If so, click on which humidifier you have as well. Doing so will include your equipment each post you make so you don't have to keep reminding us. There are two options for display of your equipment in each post: text or pictures. Text is better as it immediately tells us which equipment you are using. IF you select the pictures then we have to click on the picture to find out which equipment you are using which is an extra step and time consuming.

CPAP does work and it can help you get the sleep you need and crave but more information is needed. The more information the faster you can start achieving the sleep you need and want.

I have almost the same problem. When using the machine, I wake up regularly at about 5:30 no matter what time I go to bed. Usually I feel rested and feel like I have had a full nights sleep. A lot of times it seems like I have only been asleep 2 or 3 hours when it actually has been 6 or 7. However, about 2 hours later I start fizzling out and I have to take a nap around noon and then I am fine.

2 weeks ago, I had another sleep study. The tech used an auto adjusting machine for my test. I had the best night of sleep in over a year. Needless to say, I ordered a new Remstar Auto C-Flex Machine a few days ago. It is supposed to be here Thursday this week. We'll see what happens.

You might have another type of sleep problem.......like alpha wave intrustion.?? I have that.
I have never really slept more than 7 hours a night. I seem to go through cycles. Lately, I've been sleeping for about 6 hours, then I wake up and can't get back to sleep. I'm thinking that my sleep quality is better, so I'm needing less sleep.
But the fact that you are so sleepy, so soon after getting up, and you take such a long nap, makes me wonder if you are waking up from some other sleep problem.
I don't know what your age is, but perimenopause really wreaked havoc on my sleep. I woke up early all the time.
Do you use your CPAP for your nap too?
I have also noticed that if I drink caffeine, I always wake up too early the next morning, even if I only had caffeine at breakfast the day before.
I should give it up, but I just can't.

Do you pap when you nap? You should, or your therapy overnight will go down the "tubes", or hoses if you prefer.

I have been wondering about when I nap in my chair should I use my CPAP.
I just about always feel crap after a nap.
Should I or not? Does anyone use for napping?
