Newbee needs help with CPAP numbers
Well I finished my third nite and have been checking the encore data. My AHI is 9.5, can someone tell me what an acceptable level is? Also my Dr wrote my script for a Cpap pressure of 6, but I have the auto machine and noticed I spend most of my sleep time around 10 and 11. I'm wondering if I should raise the lower end from 6 up to 8 or 9. I have the upper end set at 15. Can someone advise me? Thanks

If your "treated" AHI is 9.5, that's too high it should be below 5.0, however, it is not unheard of for the first few nights to be a little higher.Bamafanatic56 wrote:Well I finished my third nite and have been checking the encore data. I wonder about why your doctor wrote your prescription for a setting of 6 cm. Sounds to me like they didn't get a good sleep study (titration) done on you.
If your machine is already spending much of the time at 10 and 11, I'd set the bottom pressure there and see what that does to your AHI.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, there are too many of those types running loose.
I just noticed your mask in your profile, too.....make sure you're not mouth-leaking and losing your therapy air.

They are "per hour" and yours are excellent!BrnEyez wrote:The numbers that I am now seeing (with thanks to the fourm on how to do it) are those numbers "per hour" or "per sleep session" (which was 8.23hrs.)
This morning the numbers were:
AHI 1.6
AI 0.0
HI 1.6
Leak rate .08L/s
Pressure: 9.4
Thanks for all of the help and support.

Den,
Those numbers are good because with the help of this forum I began to feel in charge and not settle for what I had just been "given". I learned how to access the numbers, which they never told me. I changed what they told me was a good humidity setting and too leave it "alone". I requested larger nasal prongs only to be told they would give them to me at the next appointment...wrong, I showed up and asked for them then and there...and did not want to be charged for the cannula. And my leak rate is way down.
I can't say that yet the fatigue and brain fog have dissappeared but I am sleeping better with the CPAP and seem to be adjusting to the contraption.
I have been using earplugs (for the sound) and Johnson and Johnson Hurt Free Wrap for my mouth (unable to use Poligrip or tape). I never received any tips or suggestions from the Doc-In-A-Box. Just received the equipment and a hearty- Hi-Hi-Ho...now enjoy the financial hemmorage shove out the door...except for the "come back all the time"so we can charge alot and often.
Everything I have learned and all of the support and encouragement has been through this forum and I feel empowered.

A HI of 1.6 is good.. Especially on your machine.. I have the same machine and am told that it always registeres high HI's..BrnEyez wrote:The numbers that I am now seeing (with thanks to the fourm on how to do it) are those numbers "per hour" or "per sleep session" (which was 8.23hrs.)

My AI is 0.0 and my HI is typically 6 - 7.. Nearly a year now so I will go for a new sleep test soon.. pretty sure that my true HI is closer to zero.. am sure yours is likely zero as well...
congrats.. I went from an AHI of 127 to one of 6.. night and day difference.
