Settings for Headrest on Resmed S8 Elite

Post by Idget » Fri Dec 07, 2007 5:52 am

I expect my Headrest nasal pillow to show up today. What would the settings on the RESMED S8 Elite be. I suspecdt that I would use the Swift settings? Thanks to all the past posting on how to modify the Headrest (aura). Looking first to use the rubber band fix and then see if that works before taking the other recommendations.

If you don't want to use "Standard" pick the mask the is most like the Headrest in its leak rate - you have the info on this chart.

Resmed's machine use the (Resmed) mask info to report your leak rate - when they know the mask they subtract its intentional leak rate from the total, and only report the residual. If you use "Standard" you'll have to do you own calculations....

Did a search and this is closet thread I could find without starting a new one.

Just got the Aeiomed Headrest yesterday and tried out last night. Had the pillow setting for 'swift'. Leak rate was 0.24 the entire night -normally I'm getting 0 to 0.10 with LT nasal pillow . Does anyone know if there is a 'correct' setting for the Aeiomed on the Resmed S8 AutoElite II?

Here's ResMed's chart of flow rates:

Figure out what the flow rate for the Headrest is (there should be a chart in your user guide), at your pressure, then compare to the flow rates for the ResMed masks, and take the closest one. You might still need to do a little math, if they're not exactly the same.

I use the Headrest mask and also have used the ResMed S8 Elite machine. When I looked it up some time ago, I determined that "Standard" is the most appropriate mask setting on the S8 for that mask.

Thanks Katie. The headrest flow chart starts at 14.5 L/min @ 4 cm, and then intersect ~ 25 L/min @ 11 cm. The Mirage activa is the only set that is even remotely close. I also note there is nothing on the ResMed chart for 'standard'. So I'm not sure which one best fits: Mirage activa or standard?

My machine is the S8 AutoElite II.

Btw I've emailed both Aeiomed & ResMed and hopefully they'll answer on Monday.

dtsm, you mentioned that your machine is the S8 AutoElite II. There is no such machine. It's either the S8 AutoSet II or S8 Elite II. The mask settings are the same on both.

As I mentioned earlier, Standard is the correct Mask Setting for the Headrest on the S8 machines. At 8 cm, the Activa mask setting deducts 28 L/min. At 8 cm, the Standard mask setting deducts 24 L/min. The Standard setting is closer to the Headrest's intentional flow rate at 8 cm, which is about 22 L/min.

I hope you like the Headrest mask. It's one of my favorites. I consistently get a zero leak rate with it and it's comfortable. A little noisy on inhale, but I've gotten more used to that.

My bad....it's autoset II. I just re-set to standard.

And you're right, I notice the noise each time I inhale. The good news is the exhalation vent points up and we might be able to take down the pillow wall now set up btw the mrs. and myself.

Many thanks!

That inhale noise with the Headrest is the only negative about that mask for me, but that's minor compared to the positives. I love, love, love that it vents air upward (out of the way of pillows and bed partner!). Some people alter the headgear or have to stablilize the nasal pillows (more info here: viewtopic.php?t=3098), but it works great for me as-is. I hope you get good results with it too!
