daylight savings time

Post by catbirdgirl » Mon Nov 05, 2007 4:28 pm

is there any of you that find daylight savings time disorienting no matter which direction we are moving?

I hate it!

Yep, I hate it, besides it messed up my Encore Pro report. Takes a good month to get my bio clock reset.

It's never bothered me. My DH drives me nuts though. For about two weeks after the time change (either direction) he's constantly telling me what time it "normally" would have been. LOL I guess I just find it easier to go with the flow. Then again, I work from home. If I had to get up and drive to an office every day, it might make more of a difference.

I agree! Readjusting to the change in the fall is tough for me! I always feel like I'm an hour late for everything until I can get used to it! It gets dark so early too. This year I'm not really minding as much. I'm not doing many outdoor types of things. I just feel like I should be in bed before it's time to, LOL!

I prefer having an extra hour of light in the evening than in the early morning, so I love springing ahead and I'm not so crazy about falling back.

I feel very fortunate that I don't have as much trouble adjusting as so many people. Perhaps that's because I read an article in the paper that said something like the following. (The article was bordered by a dashed line and a little scissors icon, suggesting you "clip n' save" for future reference.)

"Having trouble adjusting to Daylight Savings Time? Always running an hour late (or early) for things? Keep this handy guide with you during the adjustment, and you'll be fine.

A good book to read that fits well with this topic:

This book talks about our experience of time. How it affects memory, sleep, health, productivity, etc.

Thought I'd share some links on the use of light therapy to adjust "your clock".

Among other factors, your clock is “set” by your exposure to bright light such as sunlight. Exposure to bright light or “light therapy” is one method used to treat people with a circadian rhythm sleep disorder.

The goal for treating patients who have circadian rhythm problems is to combine a healthy sleep pattern with an internal clock that is set at the right time. This will allow them to enjoy the benefits of good sleep.

Light therapy can help someone “re-set” a clock that is off. Regular sleep patterns help to keep the clock set at the new time.

Once it's dark, I'm ready for bed. Doesn't matter if it's 9:00, or 4:00. Winters are very difficult here in the PNW. I'm hoping that CPAP is going to help at least somewhat.

I HATE the time change - either direction. I've always had this neat "internal clock" that worked really well. I'd be able to tell the time w/in 10-15 minutes instinctively. UNTIL the doggone government came up w/the "bright" idea of changing the clock twice a year.

Being by nature a "night" person rather than a "day person" I also had a tendency to fight "the clock on the wall" and once I retired I quit looking at clocks and calendars!!

It takes me a good month or two to adjust to this d*mn time change bit (and I can't even blame it on Bush Baby and Cheney - which is adding insult to injury!).

It seems so unnatural to adjust time. But I guess keeping time of any kind of sort of unnatural!
I think we have become so disconnected from nature's cues, that it causes alot of problems.
I was finally able to sleep in a little, because it was so dark out. Now its light out. My body probably thinks its spring again!
LOL Kimberly......I always did the same thing your DH does......."Its REALLY such and such a time" hahaha
I usually open up my chicken coop at 10a.m. But now if I do it at 10a.m., they have to wait an hour of daylight longer.
Its just all very strange......
And......in my state of Indiana, we do it even more differently (I think).......or does the whole U.S. have a different DST schedule now? All the VCRs changed times a week too soon. They are set to do that automatically, so now we'll have to change that every year too.....when it sets the clocks too early, and then a week later when they change again.
That book about Time looks interesting.
