Every time I wash my M series humidifier chamber, I have a very hard time putting it back together. Once the top and bottom have been set and the chamber has been "locked", the rubber gasket is crooked in some places.

I dont fill the humidifier chamber over the gasket, so it does not leak when I pour in the water. Should I take the chamber back to the DME? Is there a risk that it could leak into my machine even if dont fill the the chamber completely?

My DME advised me NOT to take the humidifier apart as it is difficult to get the gasket seated right and the possiblity of it leaking.

Very good chance it can leak after you put it back togrther. It is a problem with the design. When you put it back together wet thje gasket with water it will let it slide a bit and go together. I rurned my dresser top waking up with the machine in a puddle of water. Most folks put it in a tray or cookie sheet to catxh the leaks. I too no don't take it apart any longer. I will wash it about once with a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water wash with Johnsons baby shampoo to get out the smell and rinse with water. It will leak whether you over fill or not.

I have the M Series Pro and just went to pull my humidifier out to check for a gasket. Mine is so snug I didn't even notice it. The only time my humidifier leaked was once I cleaned and filled it (not over the line though) but did not snap the sliding lock firmly in place. Leaked out through the machine and ruined my nightstand. My RT told me to take my humidifier apart to clean and dry it. I'd say if your gasket is not fitting well you run the risk of leaking, and would give the RT a call.

I wash my humidifier chamber weekly in the dish washer and the dishwasher goes through the dry cycle. Once the cycle is finished, I re-assemble the dry humidifier which is always a battle .

I just opened my bone dry chamber, wet the gasket and re-assembled the chamber with absolutely no struggle!!!! Thanks for that tidbit Jerry!

I wash my humidifer daily (per RT). When it's completely dry, I put it back together as my RT showed me. I start at the bottom and gently push the two halves together. Before I push the top part together I check the gasket to be sure it's not twisted. If it is, I open it back up and do it again. Then I push it gently together at the top.

Second time around usually works.

I'll try that tip about wetting the gasket to see if I can get it down to one try every time.

I also wash chamber daily in A.M. per RT. I take it apart each time, use a mild dish washing detergent (only clear colored ones such as Joy, also per RT), then let it air dry during the day. Was told when putting it back together to close it, wet the seal by wetting finger and running it all around the edge and this would provide a tighter seal. No problems with leaking yet, but only starting 3rd week on CPAP so my experience is still in the beginning stages.

I was told not to put the humidifier chambers in the dishwasher as there was a chance of warpage that would NOT be covered under the warranty. You may have just been lucky so far that yours hasn't had any meltage, warpage yet. I would think it would be bad for it due to the hot dry cycle and my dishwater has a sensor that will detect the temperature of the water and if necessary will heat the water to a certain temperature.

Of course DME RT's have been known to be wrong .

I gotta ask - who said this thing is dishwasher safe? Esp. the "Dry Cycle" - WOW. I am surprised it doesn't just melt!!

I've been afraid to mine in the microwave to heat up the water!!! If you have an M, you know what I'm talking about. For some reason they changed the design so that the heater Does NOT come on until the blower comes on.

My DME showed me how to take it apart & put it together but it hasn't been apart since. Partly because of what I have read about the leak problems. The rest is just because when using Distilled water, I don't think it needs it.

I seldom cleaned or disassembled the tank type which I liked so much better because you could warm the water BEFORE you went to sleep. With the M series it just feels cool until you wake up.

Respironics musta done some kind of research on this, Right?

Note that the material of the water tank is dishwasher safe. However, the middle seal “O” ring must be removed before cleaning. After cleaning, the “O” ring must be replaced before being used. We recommend a manual soap and water bath instead of using your dishwasher.

(Ive been washing the tank for more than 6 months in the dishwasher )

Im going to wash the tank the same way I wash the mask by letting it soak in warm water and baby shampoo.
