Cpap during & after Pregnancy

Post by Lipgloss42 » Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:57 pm

I have been a CPAP user for 6 months and I am now 10 weeks pregnant. I remember having serious sleep issues during my first pregnancy, but that was before my sleep study. I am wondering what I might expect as far as sleeping later in my pregnancy and after my C section (namely while in the hospital). Anyone have some words of wisdom?

I don't know about wisdom, but your sleep should be better since you won't be having issues with lack of oxygen and being awakened many times each night due to apnea. Your baby will definitely benefit from the apnea control. As far as the c-section, you may want to look under the yellow light bulb at the top of the page. It has information about cpap after surgeries. From what I've read, it is important that you let them know about your apnea and they will want to have you on cpap (possibly have you bring your unit) in recovery. If you are having an epidural, it probably won't be as much an issue as if they have to give you general anesthesia. The pain meds will reduce your respiratory drive though, so I'm sure they will want you to use your cpap for sleeping in the hospital. Sometimes they have to check your equipment out and approve it before letting you use it in the hospital. I guess that is just rules for some of them. I had to have my blowdryer checked before they'd let me use it. At any rate, congrats on your pregnancy. I wish you all the best. If you run into any problems with cpap, don't hesitate to post on the board and someone will give you some help.
