Tried UMFF mask and quattro what next?

Post by sleepyhead63 » Sat Oct 20, 2007 9:51 pm

I tried both and could not get a good seal. I need a ff mask because of nasal congestion durning allergy season but having trouble finding one that works. Which one should I try next, I do realize its personel prefference but I need some good recommendations.

I use the mirage activa now which works great but like I said I need a ff mask occassionally. Any ideas would be greatly appreiciated.

Hard for me to imagine the UMFF not sealing if you make adjustments. You might try the soyala full face mask. It seals pretty good when you have it cinched up tight. I can get both of them to seal at 20...thankfully I don't have to run at that pressure though.

I tried everything to get a good seal with the umff mask but the sound it made from the leaking woke me up all night long finally I gave up on it. Now I am back at square one.

You don't mention the size UMFF or Quattro you used but my face is fairly large and a large mask leaks like a sieve on me but a medium leaks less for me anyways. All i could suggest is (and its an expensive trial and error process) try another size, theres a mask sizing guide on cpap.com which might help, when i got my first UMFF the RT held it up to my face (a large size and he did not measure my face) and said this one should be o.k. well it wasn't o.k. like i said its a trial and error process and everyones face is different.

Sleepyhead63,

Have you tried the Hybrid? I found it more comfortable than UMFF, almost no air blowing into my eyes!

I use the F&P 431 and it seems to work well for me. I do have some leaks from tossing and turning I think. Maybe I need to rig up a hose hanger of some sort to try, maybe that will help.

I did order the large and had problems so I called my dme and he came to my house to make adjustments and he measured me up and found I did need a medium. The one thing I thought was strange was when he put the mask on he made it really tight. I felt like it was too tight and he told me thats how it should feel to keep a good seal. It worked for the 10 minuites he was there but later that night I put on the mask and the leaks were back.

Those hybrid masks have nasal pillows, correct? I tried the swift nasal pillows once before and did not like them so if they are somewhat alike the hybrid will not work.

Hey Sleepyhead,

I'm going through the list of full face masks too. I normally use a Breeze nasal pillow mask and tape my mouth but I'm looking to stop taping if I can.

I have a ComfortFull 2 Medium that didn't work out for me and an F&P 431 with all three sizes of facepiece. The 431 was looking good but it causes a really bad sore on the bridge of my nose. I might give it another try.

If you're interested in trying either or both to see if they'd work for you I'd be willing to send them to you.

PM me if you're interested.

TW
