I got the DME to Jump!

Post by MissMiaMoodles » Sat Oct 20, 2007 4:27 pm

I have been on cpap for a little over 6 weeks. I have had adifficult time with the DME (what a surprise)!

When I started cpap I was totaly freaked out about it all. I had a TON of questions and guess who I asked...yup our local neighborhood DME. OK, OK I know you all must be groaning at that (I am now).

The day after I got the cpap I had a few questions and problems. I called in the am they said the RT would call me back. Nope no call. Called the next morning again they said she would call me. Late in the day (Friday) I called back more excuses and she ould call ..can you guess... no call! I was assertive and said that someone needed to call me BEFORE the weekend. They did.

I called the next week for something and they said some people were having problems with the machine..and that it must have been a bad "BATCH" of machines. Yeah, it was was reccalled and she gave it to me anyway and of course she didnt call me I had to call her.

A few weeks later my new cpap was leaking (ruined my table) I called. No call back. I put it in a cookie tin and it leaked so badly that it was sitting in a LOT of water. The whole underside of the machine was soaked. The substitue RT came out and looked at it and said she didnt see any leak...we mopped it up DUH!!! She told me that she wasnt sure that anything could be done..... that she would have someone call me by the following week (they were moving the office). A week and a half later I called them! They said my RT would call me back. NO CALL!

I called the next day and waited again for the RT to call. I said that I WANTED a call back that day. The receptionist called me back at the end of the day and said they would replace the humidifier. I asked about the machine..she said not to worry, no error message..and it was "under warranty" for two years. I said that was unacceptable. I wanted the cpap changed out as well. She'll get back to me. I called her right back and mentioned that the Doctor agreed with me that the machine needed to be changed.

Early the next morning my very own RT called me back and said of course they would exchange it for me. She brought it out to me in two hours!!!!

I guess when the doctors name is mentioned..THEY JUMP!!!!!!!!

Sorry this was so long, I guess it has been building up!

I think we should collect these stories and put them into a book (the size of War and Peace at least). Then get a law passed that anyone who gets a sleep study must also get a copy of the book to read before they even have the sleep study (since it often takes months on a waitlist to get in). The new patient would then have read the book before any appointment is made with the DME.

That would head 'em off at the pass!!!

The Peace comes when by some miracle we encounter a good local DME supplier - or more likely, when the sheister local DME suppliers tuck their tail between their legs and back off from their half-truths, lies, etc. and start providing the service they are being paid for!!!!
