I feel I have developed a dependency on cpap...is that possible... is there a study?

You'd better hope so. It's good for compliance and your health.

Keep it up.

After a while your body gets use to breathing, give it what it wants. It's hard to overdose on clean air. Jim

When you go out partying, you can be the designated breather.

With OSA, if you are cpap dependent then that is the best way to be. Most of us will be lifetime hoseheads because of the apnea. I wouldn't worry about it for sure. It's good to be able to breathe at night.

I agree! I don't want to even think about going through so much as one night without my xPAP! And that doesn't bother me one bit. I know that I need it, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I dont think you "become" dependant. You are from the start depending on CPAP to keep you alive and breathing through the night.

You asked about "studies"? Yes, there have been studies (although most were done some years ago) regarding people being "compliant" with their therapy......unfortunately, only about half of the patients are compliant. If you're addicted/dependent on your therapy....you're in the GOOD half.
The sobering thought is that the other half is driving with you (or toward you) on the highways.

I love my CPAP ( I used to have a love-hate relationship with it before I found the right mask) I will not sleep without it, I love my laptop too, but will give it up for my CPAP..

My CPAP is the first thing I pack when we go to our other house for the weekends..

I am so addicted to it, that I had a chance to get lucky, but had to turn it down because I didn't have my CPAP.

If Mgiver had been in that situation he would have made something work with the cannister vacum cleaner, an old diving mask, a paperclip and some duct tape. (probably wouldn't really need the paper clip, but it seems to always be a key )

You guys are funny

So yeah CPAP is something I've accepted as being a part of my life for the rest of my life. It's not a brief treatment it's forever. I have a friend at work who just had tonsils removed and whatnot and thinks maybe she won't need cpap anymore. I told her don't be so quick to assume that, and mentioned that this surgery has a very low success rate as far as treating sleep apnea goes.

Of course I know other people who have relatives who KNOW they have sleep apnea and will not use cpap. Course we had another thread covering THAT topic.

I'm so addicted to mine, even tho I'm still not sleeping well, that I couldn't do a new sleep study because I can't sleep without it. Of course if the ff woks then I won't need a new sleep study. You guys are a huge help.

I am addicted to it, finally getting a refreshing sleep. But it's hard to snuggle to the wife as she gets turned off with the hissing and the exhaust air going into her ear.... The price of having a good night's sleep....
