first ff mask and need help
I just received my latest mask and went for ff mask this time because of mouth breathing and sinus problems. I have the resmed quattro ff mask and having a problem getting a good seal. I did all the measurements and ended up with a large. I wore it the other night for about 15 minuties and had to take it off because of the leaks. Any ideas?

Did you have the mask fitted while laying down? Also, turn your machine on before placing the mask on you face. These are suggestions the company wrote me when I contacted them because I am having mask problems. CALL THE COMPANY 800#. They have some RN's there on the phone who are very helpful. I have been at ths for a year now, and the FF Mask issue continues to be an issue/problem.
Good luck.

Works for most masks:
1. Connect mask, turn on machine, lay down in bed with head on pillow.
2. Start with top straps, grab BOTH at same time, break them loose, take them straight to your side and adjust strap until forehead pads just barely touch, should be no real pressure there.
3. Attach the top straps.
4. Break bottom straps loose, perform the same bringing the ends of the headgear straight out to your side, this time adjust tension only until you feel the leak stop, reattach velcro.
5. Adjust forehead F1 steering wheel, crank knob until you get leaks into eyes then crank it back until the leak stops.
Straps should NOT be tight, if you crush the cushion it will put a crease in the cushion then it will leak at that crease and no amount of adjusting the straps will take the crease out. If you are getting uncontrollable leaks grasp the mask frame and pull it away from your face.
You may have to do some fine tuning with the straps but that should get you pretty close. Never tighten or wear any mask where you crush the cushion against the face. Don't allow any leaks into the eyes, it will artificially dry out your lens and could lead to vision impairment over time.
Stopping the leak/pressure over the nose is the hardest part to adjust, there should be about 1/8" space on the forehead pad, about all that does is keep the mask balanced on the face.
I have never been able to properly adjust a mask in a mirror, always best to do it laying down like you would sleeping.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
For me, the eye leaks on the Quattro aren't the problem... its below the corners of my mouth where air likes to come out. It doesn't do it immediately either.
I have to pretty much crank down on the bottom straps until the plastic frame touckes my chin. It will stay sealed all night like that. If I leave it any looser, the seals start slowwwwllllyy moving... until they finally lose seal. It feels kind of creepy when they start to scoot... like something crawling on your face. Not pleasant.
To the Quattros credit, though, even with the tight straps, I don't have residual red marks all day.

Sounds almost like the mask's too big - especially with the mouth area leak. The other questions is do you drool in your sleep? If so the added moisture can be compromising the seal around your mouth and it would cause that tickling, creeping feeling.
Solution to the latter is pop your mask and wipe the seal and your face.

You know it feels like the mask is too big because it leaks at the bottom in the mouth chin area. According to the measuring guide which I used, I needed a large size and thats what I have.
Last night I did everything I could think of to adjust the mask and it just would not keep a seal, I could here and feel the leak. Also what causes the sound (sounds like I am playing a trumpet) when I exhale into the mask, is that part of the air escapeing the mask?
I went through all the steps snoredog reccomended for adjusting it (did it about 10 times) then I gave up and used my nasal mask.
Any other suggestions?

The elbow. I wrapped both ends - the part that goes into the mask and the part that goes into the quick-disconnect for the tubing. Quiets it right down. You'll need to replace the tape every 2 weeks or so.
