Machine for travel

Post by Vonon » Mon Sep 24, 2007 8:59 pm

I have an M series plus with humidifier which works fine for me but would like to have a smaller, lighter machine for travel. What do you suggest?

These are small and light:

Puritan Bennett GoodKnight 420G

I have a PB GoodKnight 420E autopap - same size and light weight as the 420G. The flat shape is very easy to pack.

Zzz-PAP

ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)
Humidifier: Integrated + Climate Control hose
Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps
3M painters tape over mouth

I've never seen anything smaller and lighter than the M series. If a palm-size machine is too big, are you sure you actually have an M Series? As far as I know, they are smaller than the Goodknight suggested above.

RG, those figures don't include the weight of the mask, hose, power cords, PurSleep vials and diffuser or carry bag.

I travel about once a month, on average (which is why I disappear from the forum periodically! LOL), and have no problems with my little PB 420e. It comes with a nifty blue carry-on bag that holds the unit, humidifier, mask and all accessories. I keep it with me as a carry-on and have done the "OJ Sprint" through several airports and had no trouble. The TSA folks seem to know about XPAPs and clearing through them is either a matter of taking the unit out of the bag and letting it go through the xray or having them do a swipe. Either way, not a problem.

Good luck, Vonon.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess part of the size/weight problem is the big external power supply. Do all of the other machines have these? Add in the humidifier and you have a big footprint on a hotel nightstand.
