getting somewhere with supplier?

Post by sharon1965 » Sun Sep 23, 2007 2:27 pm

well, for those of you who have had the misfortune of following the saga between me, my suppier and my sleep doc regarding my bare bones basic machine, and for those of you who have helped me so much with suggestions and offers of help.....TA DA!!!

i'm reluctant to say it out loud, but i think i may have gotten close to what i want...if my RT is not blowing more smoke up my bum, later on this week i will be the recipient of a respironics m series pro c-flex cpap, and it will cost me $300, (the difference between what was billed to provincial coverage/insurance for my present machine and the outrageously inflated cost of the new machine) which is still highway robbery, but i can live with it

ok, ok, i know it's not the apap i originally wanted, but my sleep doc won't budge on the rx, and it's not my first choice of machine, either, but it's still better than what i have and $300 is very do-able...and i've only been fighting with them since february!!

stay tuned...i won't believe it till i see it

Getting another machine

Post by kteague » Sun Sep 23, 2007 3:01 pm

Sharon,
That's the machine I'm using these days. At least you'll have a data capable machine. Persistence pays off, hey?

That stinks you have to pay. I just had my doctor add the words c-flex and data capable on my script and I got my M series Pro for zero extra.

I'm not sure, but I thought you could buy the M series Pro for $400 or so... I think I would have done that before giving the DME $300... and then had the bare bones as a backup... but that's just me.

yeah, but you don't live in canada, where to purchase that equipment you need a prescription, go through provincial coverage (which will only pay for the basic because that's all that is medically necessary) and pay the difference on a machine that they are charging way more than double for; paying $300 sure beats paying the $1520 they would charge me for it if i didn't use the provincial coverage...obviously if i could have done it your way, i would have

Ah, Good old Canada... there's always a catch. Socialized medicine has it's good points and bad points.

Sounds like $300 was the easiest, although unfortunate, way to get what you wanted.

That little C-flex feature is worth it in my book. I haven't looked at any data yet because I don't have my card reader yet, although it's sitting at my local post office waiting for me to pick it up. Perhaps I'll get around to playing with that this week. After spending two nights in the hospital taking care of my wife, I'm sure my compliance numbers look terrible now....

Good luck with the machine. I hope the deal goes through for you.

thanks

the $300 would've happened even if i had been educated enough to do what you did in the first place, which was tell your doc exactly what you wanted...for my new machine (or any upgrade beyond basic) i would have had to pay the extra myself..as it stands, i've used the basic machine every night for more than 8 months, so i'm amazed they're agreeing to take it back at all
for me, c-flex wasn't the point...my pressure is only 6; i was going for full data collection, which, again, isn't what they consider 'medically necessary'
yeah, get that card reader going...what a waste, otherwise

hope your wife is doing ok

I would kill for a pressure of 6! My ramp starts higher than that

Yaaay Sharon

I know how long and how hard you have had to push to get a data-capable machine, and I'm thrilled for you that you are finally getting what you want! I hope you can get the new machine quickly and that being able to see what is going on will improve your therapy.

Well done.

Bonnie
