Finally, after 1 whole month!

Post by CamiTampa » Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:05 pm

Last night, for the first time, I managed to make it through the entire night without taking off the mask. My previous best 2 hrs. Last night 7 hrs.

In this time I have switched masks from a comfortfull to a Liberty and back again. Leaks have been my problem all along. Last night I went back to the Liberty since I really do like the mask and tried it a bit different. I didn't use the saline gel on the pillows. and during the night when one slipped out I wipped the moisture off it and slipped it back. Keeping them dry was the key. Dry they stay in. The saline gel just made them slip out faster as they became slick.

Is there anything I could try that would make the pillows sticky or just tacky enough to adhere to my nose skin? I do like the liberty so much better than a normal FF. Since I am prone to nasal congestion and occassionally mouth breath I have to have some form of FF. Maybe in 5 more months when insurance will pay for another mask I'll try some thing different.

I felt so good this morning when I woke up with the mask still on.

Cami, very good!

I don't know of anything to use to prevent nasal pillows from getting slippery as the night wears on. What you did (wiping them dry when you wake up with a nasal pillow out of place) is about all I know to do.

Maybe you could figure out a way to keep the nasal pillows in place even when they get slippery -- perhaps with a soft, stretchy homemade strap across the front and tied behind the head:

This works for me Tincture of Benzoine

If you search for this Tincture of Benzoine you'll find others that have tried it. I have now for about a week and with my hybrid pillows it really works well to keep them in place. It's cheap and will go along way. I just take a cotton swab and coat each pillow and let dry a few minutes. No problems. I found it after calling several local pharmacies. It could be hard to find but can be ordered by anyone.

Another option suggested by my sleep doc: KY clear liquid (possibly jelly, too). It just takes a drop and is sticky. It has kept my leaks in the 30-35 range when I use my chin strap. It also helps prevent soreness.

I've jotted myself a note about the tincture of benzoine as another option to try!
