Effiency Data Optimum Results

Post by loggie » Tue Sep 18, 2007 9:49 am

I am new to CPAP since mid July and only just received my machine last Thursday. It is a ResMed S8 Elite which I chose as an upgrade because of the ability to show efficiency data.

However interpreting this data is another thing. I have kept a record for the last three days, but don't know what is the optimal level for each result.

I am eager to learn everything I can about this and have read your forum since I was diagnosed. In fact when I went back for my titration study, and to pick up my machine at the DME, I gave them both your web address. They were going to check it out and told me that a patient's compliance was enhanced when they knew more about sleep apnea. I have not missed a night in spite of a couple of masks that did not agree with me.

Thanks for all your help.

goal is to get the AHI below 5 which is considered Normal.

AI (apnea indice) is the one you want to look at, you increase pressure until that drops below 5 and/or closer to 1 if you can get it there.

HI (hypopnea indice) is secondary, you have to get AI down first before it will begin to drop. HI should drop once you get the AI down to lowest levels it should begin to fall.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Yup. What SnoreDog says. AND that Pressure that shows up is NOT the average pressure for the night, nor the highest pressure for the night, it is the 95th percentile which means you spent 95% of the night AT OR BELOW that pressure. Same thing for the Leak, it is the 95th percentile for the night.
