STILL SNORING!

Post by Dolphin » Sun Sep 16, 2007 2:50 am

Hello, I am new to cpap. This is roughly my 6th week of treatment. I have a Respironics cpap machine with heated humidifier along with fisher/paykel 407 nasal mask. My husband has noticed that for pasy 2 weeks I have started snoring again. Not to mention the frustration I feel about the bridge of nose being sore(that's another story). I have used moleskin, loosened mask a little and during day put polysporin on it to speed up healing. My concern right now is " Why am I snoring again?" My machine pressure is almost maxed now. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank-you

You have the correct machine, now you need to get the software and reader so you can see were your treatment is going. My guess is you are mouthbreathing with a nasal mask. You really need the software, without it you are missing out on knowing what's gone wrong. Jim

Some snoring isn't a big thing, not getting enough air is.

Thank-you Jim,
Just got back from RT to get info on card downloaded. Apparantly I fall asleep before the cpap reaches the right pressure. RT has now made the adjustments. I am also trying a new nasal mask. It's from Respironics confort series. The mask has blue gel. I would like to know how I'm doing with this but pain the you know what taking the card to RT to get info downloaded. I will be purchasing a new cpap within the next mth and it comes with a card. This machine also can give you general info, not as detailed as the card would. I will get the same cpap I have now just the latest version.

Carol, do you mean the Auto with C-Flex you're using now is almost hitting the maximum pressure in its range now?

What pressure range is it set for?

If you're planning on getting the latest version of the Respironics REMstar Auto, I suppose you're planning to get the M series machine with A-Flex, not just C-Flex. The Auto with A-Flex has both A-Flex and C-flex in it.

Sounds like the RT shortened the ramp time and perhaps raised the ramp starting pressure.

However, if the minimum pressure is set very low in the min/max range, too little pressure may still hamper getting good treatment. Autopaps are designed to raise and lower pressure rather slowly. That's good, because abrupt yo-yo'ing pressures could be disruptive to sleep.

I'm not a doctor, but I think it's a good idea for most people to have the minimum pressure in an autopap set high enough to prevent most events (apneas/hypopneas) right from the get-go.

Having the minimum down at 4 or 5 or even 6 can let too much happen for many people before the machine can get the pressure up to whatever happens to be needed to handle sudden events. I'd want the autopap's minimum set for 7 or 8 at the least.

The machine I have now is a Remstar Auto with C-flex. It is exactly like the one I have in the pic. It's a rental but when I make the purchase, it will be the same only more compact. The humidifier is on the side.
I know you said I have the right machine, I just feel a little confused about the whole thing of using cpap, what works, what don't. Which machine is best. I'm on info overload and can only make an informed decision based on what other cpap users found helpful. I am open minded and doing the research to get more info. I don't know if cpap is fit to eat, again, I'm new to this and learning more things everyday.
Thanks

In addition to what the others have said, if you're leaking air out your mouth, that would cause the pressure to rise significantly. Seal the mouth leaks.

As RG said, it's very important to get the bottom pressure (very) close to what is needed to stop most of the events.

Hopefully, you have an RT that knows what they're doing when configuring these machines.

As far as machines are concerned, the one you have would be the one I wanted, I have two of them and wouldn't trade even for the newest "M"agic unit. If you are going to have to pay money out for your new machine, I would look into buying one from https://www.cpap.com/ outright. $674.46 will bring it to your door.

Your provider probably is getting ready to set you up with the cheapest one they can so they can make the most profit. All you need to get one online is your script and your phone.

Then you can get the software and reader, and not be in the dark about how you are doing. Jim
