Is having a beard required?
Is having a beard required?
Hey, has anybody ever noticed the number of men with beards on CPAP, and on this forum?
What's the deal with that?
Sounds like an interesting subject for a poll ....
I'm going to start watching for facial hair

As much trouble as we have fighting leaks, I can't see how having to have facial hair in your life could come before the best treatment for your health.
A mask stands a better chance of sealing and staring put of a clean smooth dry face, even then the last half of the night is a toss-up.
As a X Mechanic, I even mow my hair off to keep grease from living on my head. Jim

Having a beard has never been a problem in regard to getting a good seal for me.

Beard No more!
I have grew a beard every winter since 1981, but no more! I have a hard enough time getting things to seal clean shaven. So I guess I will have to hope for tougher cheeks this winter

One of the symptoms of SA – your face is becoming a little bit swollen permanently. So putting a little decoration on it in form of a beard looks like logical solution to me.
Yep, I've got a moustache and beard most of the time. My facial hair grows pretty fast so when I do shave it off it is really only about a week before the beard is back with a vengeance. I use an OptiLife nasal pillows system so the facial hair has no effect on the seal.
Now when I have the opportunity to SCUBA dive the moustache and beard are the first to go since that mask does need to seal on my upper lip, and it is very annoying when it does not seal well, but of course that is an entirely different matter.

Traveling sucks... Traveling with CPAP blows.
I'd rather be diving, then it is a good thing to breathe through your mouth.

I've never posted here before, but this thread is the perfect place to start! I have a goatee that I've worn for years...I or no one else remembers what I look like without it. It's not going anywhere. That being said, I cannot find a mask that works for me. I got a CL2 with pillows and like it a lot, but I lose the "lip seal". Taping (ouch!) and a chin strap didn't help. I've tried several FF masks, and most recently the Hybrid, which I'm returning today. I got my machine in May, 2006, and I've been basically untreated since then. Other than shaving, any suggestions?
