Need advice ....should I buy an expensive machine?

Post by debstieb » Sat Sep 08, 2007 11:35 am

I have lost about 20 lbs since starting cpap 6 months ago. I am about 150 now and the therapist said that they retitrate at 20lb loss. I have been doing so well >>> cholesterol down 60 points, fatigue gone, weight loss.

Sometimes I feel that the pressure is too high and sometimes it feels too low. Should I spend the money out of pocket for an auto machine or stick with this one and retitrate?

You shouldn't buy a expensive machine ever, but you should a good machine that collects data and adjusts to your needs.

Such a one like in my profile, If not then "second best", "M"eries, APAP with A-Flex.

Amazing, that a Sleep Lab would want a $1,000 + test, for every 20 LBs of weight. That kinda puts Jenny C. out of the range for us. Lose 100 LB, buy the DME a new sports Car, don't think so. Jim

With the new APAP, you can have a sleep study every night, and a lower pressure. It's a no brainer.

Do the numbers.

Cost of retitration study??? ------

Cost of autopap on this auction site? -----------

With APAP you will have a sleep study every night that will give you the pressure you need.

Have doc write Rx for apap and make your decision.

I know what mine was.

Expensive machine? That's a relative term. What's your health worth?
Even upgrading (purchasing) an M Series Pro will give you information on your sleep details. You don't HAVE to go to the Auto to get sleep data, but there's obviously nothing wrong with having one.

After monitoring my therapy for 2 1/2 years with software, I wouldn't spend (or let my insurance provider spend) another dime on another titration.

I could have originally purchased an Auto, but decided to get a Pro 2 and spend the difference on software and card reader.

Having a machine that gives nightly data is really important, IMHO. I continue to improve my treatment based on what I find there.

Also, having a backup machine is really important. I never want to go another night without a machine.

I have to be honest. My hubby is more worried about the expense than I am. I am not sure he realizes how much my health has improved w/this.

Thanks,

Deb
