My nose burned

Post by Zirkon » Fri Sep 07, 2007 7:32 pm

I have used the flexifit 431 for over a year, and visited my doctor yesterday and thankfully I am a veteran, so I was able to get a new mask at no cost. I chose the Opti-Life. I put it on and it was comfortable and had a good seal and I did not have to have the head gear on too tight, but after about 2 hours of sleep I woke up with a burning sensation around my nostrils. I had the humidifier setting at 4. Any idea why this might have happened, and what I could do to prevent it. I really want to use the new mask, it is such a huge difference from the full face.

Thanks

Scott

It's like everything else, the body has to get used to having it there. Like breaking in a new pair of shoes. After about four days my nares were toughened up enough that it didn't bother me very much. Now I don't even notice the pillows at all. You might want to use AYR lotion or even a chapstick helps to keep the irritation to a minimum. Good luck to you.......jim

AROUND the nostrils or IN the nostrils?

Around the nostrils it is probably due to moisture accumulating between nostrils and pillows along w/the air chapping the skin there.

In the nostrils it is probably due to the air pressure blown more directly into your nose than is the case w/the nasal cusion masks.

77. Should I clean the ComfortLite 2 before using it the first time?
Yes, we recommend using mild soapy water before you use any mask for the first time. For those with sensitive skin, it is a good idea to soak ANY new mask you use for 30-60 minutes in mild soapy water.
My emphasis.

My face burned when I used an unsoaked nasal mask - I hadn't read these recommendation at that point.

This recomendation is given by company reps on almost all chats about masks, and has to with the fact that there may be some residues left on the masks from the production process.

I now always soak any new equipment, and haven't had that burning since.
