I know I am using up a lot of my goodwill lately pushing products on the board, but between the CPAPAuction.com launch and the new round of Resmed discounts on CPAP.com, wow - the discounts are steep and I think it qualifies as news that a lot of this restricted stuff is still available from the good guys are reasonable prices.

BUYING RESMED ONLINE FROM NON RESMED DEALER CAN BE A GAMBLE

I find Johnny to be very good hearted wanting to make sure that customers get the best price available for Resmed products. However, with that said, I find it very dishearting that Johnny never mentions that CPAP.COM is NOT a Resmed dealer and as such is putting their customers at risk of not having a valid warranty on products they sell manufactured by Resmed. As many of you are aware Resmed enacted strick guidlines on the sale of their prodcts on the internet. Many will argue that this was done to protect the profit margins of their "brick and mortar" customers however; it was also done to protect their customers. You can color the program in any way you want but it was an attempt to do both.

CPAP.COM refused to live by the standards setup by Resmed and therefore was denied the previdge of being named a Resmed Preferred Internet Provicer. They are not aurthorized to sell Resmed products on line and as Resmed will tell you if you contact them, your warranty may not be honored if you purchase your equipment from a non Resmed Preferred Internet provider.

Resmed's policy in part states, "ResMed internet policies are designed to encourage and support patient care now and into the future. Our market research indicates that the number one factor driving patient compliance is HME service. This service comes at a cost to HME providers, whether they sell products online or through a storefront. Approved ResMed Preferred Internet Providers are committed to providing high-quality care with the goal of improving patient outcomes by selling authentic, unadulterated ResMed products and by providing professional service for therapy usage and ongoing compliance. All products purchased from a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider come with the manufacturer's standard warranty.
If ResMed products are not purchased online through a Preferred Internet Provider, ResMed cannot ensure that products are delivered safely to patients with accurate instructions regarding use or that products are not tampered with, mislabeled or misbranded."

If you doubt that your warranty may be void please contact Resmed at internetsales@resmed.com

There are plenty of fine companies on the internet that sell Resmed products at reasonable prices and are interested in protecting your consumer rights. Please check around before you buy a Resmed product from anyone. If you do not see the Resmed seal on a company's home page, beware.

Don't you just love it when the monopolistic minded defend their position?

We want to be greedy, therefore, those that don't allow us to be greedy are bad.

Same way MicroShaft talks to those that dont use their restricted supply chains and sell it for what they want it sold for.

MSRP mean Manufactor SUGGESTED Retail Price... not mandatory price...

Hey, Chuck......BLAH, BLAH, BLAH......WHO CARES?

I've never used a brick & mortar DME, but from what I've read, if you buy equipment from one of them and then go to another one for "service", they'll look at you like you're from Mars.
The online prices are so high now on the Resmed machines, that a person would be silly to buy one of those.

Maybe there shouldn't have been so many online providers that "caved" into ResMed.

All these companies care about is PROFIT!.....pure and simple. They could care less about our therapy and service.

Yeah, I saw your website address and e-mail in your profile. I think your own website promotion and self-interest in this subject is a little much.

Price fixing? when a distributor buys a product from a manufacture and then sells said product at a resale that while less than "suggested resale" is acceptable to the distubutor it is common for the distributor to be punished by being dropped by the manufacture. The stated reason will never be the real one for closing the channel. This is still America, the consumer should be left to decide what services they require and what they are willing to pay for the added, if any benifit. The threat to withhold warranty from product bought on the open market is risky ground. Regards

Trust me, I am not a ResMed (or Respironics) apologist, but I do think it is fair for a manufacturer/company to have standards that protect its brand and its channel. Speaking generally and not about this situation, typical consumers mistake poor representation/support/policies of someone selling a product as being a direct reflection on or outright equivalent to the manufacturer itself. While I'd like to think I'm personally above that type of thing, I'm not. For instance, I won't ever buy another Saturn car not because of the manufacturer itself, but because of my experiences with a couple of dealerships.

The other aspect is that when a company has an authorized reseller channel, those resellers normally pay for that right (which is a revenue stream to the company/manufacturer) and they also generally get access to inside information and support that isn't generally available. So there's a symbiotic relationship between a manufacturer and its channel partners.

While I wholeheartedly disagree with anti-consumer things that ResMed has done and continues to do, I think it is reasonable for them to control the distribution of their products (not the price fixing though!) and to deny support to people who don't go through their authorized distributors. In a perfect world having authorized channel partners would ensure a certain level of quality, but we obviously know that isn't the case in reality. But that doesn't mean the fundamental idea is flawed.
