how are you setting your aflex?

Post by packer » Mon Sep 03, 2007 2:53 pm

just curious how others have set their aflex- I have mine on 3 and have never played with it
others thoughts appreciated!
also-- how do you set [ or do you even use?] the ramp feature on aflex?

I am a little confused with aflex and ramp

doing pretty well overall AHI average about 2.3

thanks Packer

I use a-flex at #1. I did alot of testing (not overnight) and it almost seemed to "easy" to breath on a-flex 3, so I settled on aflex 1 and I have had a 1.5 average ahi on that level. I am at pressure 13.

Ramp is a separate thing and I never use it. With ramp you can start at a lower pressure than your normal pressure and have it ramp up over a period of time (which you can decide in the setup) till it gets to your normal pressure. It can help out people just starting out on cpap but most people get used to the pressure after a while and don't use it.

It also depends what pressure you are at:lower pressures don't hardly need aflex, cflex or ramp. The higher pressures 10-11 and up can use the help of aflex, cflex, and ramp.

Well I'm on Auto BiPAP, but I have Bi-Flex which from what I understand exactly like A-Flex but for the BiPAP. I've got my Bi-Flex set to 3 I've never played with it either the first tech who set me up with my machine set it at that and told me I could play around with it if I wanted, but 3 was suppose to be the most comfortable.

Now I had been using the ramp, but I've gotten used enough to the machine that I've stopped using it the last couple of days. My starting pressures are 15/13. When I was changed over to Auto BiPAP my ramp had been 10 for 20 min set by the RT who changed me over to Auto, and I set it to 11 for 15 min. He saw that I had it at 9 before and said he thought it was to low, I laughed at him and told him I set it that high after the first tech had it set at 5 and I felt like I wasn't getting enough air. He then said that was way to low for starting out when my pressures were straight BiPAP 20/16. But I don't think I'll be using it again unless they change my min EPAP > 13.

My average AHI is 1.6 since switching to Auto. Now if they try and put me on straight BiPAP again I refuse to do it, since going to Auto has eliminated the Aerophigia that I had been experiencing with straight BiPAP. (I've still yet to have my full titration sleep study. My first was split but they want another one that isn't since they never got up to a pressure that was sutible to bring up my O2 and control the apneas.)

Hello, I use my Aflex at a setting of 2 , as I have found that 3 was kind of wierd for me , as Painterman said, "almost too easy to breath". I haven't used my ramp feature since abouth the third month of therapy. Now going on 5 years at a pressure of 16 .I can barely tell is machine is on sometimes.

The first 2 months, I used the aflex setting of 2. Later I used seting of 3, I find breathing much easier. My pressure the max is around 17, I can't stand straight CPAP at this pressure. Aflex is a relieve. Right now my AHI is around 2 to 3 after using Swift II mask.

You can set the ramp feature by turning on clinical menu. Switch off your APAP if you have not done so. Press the two arrow keys and turn the power on. You will see the unlock icon on LCD. Access the menu using the arrow keys and plus/minus keys for changing settings.

I set ramp pressure at 6 for 5 minutes, my APAP min/max setting is at 8 to 17.

aflex setting

Post by packer » Mon Sep 03, 2007 5:29 pm

my aflex set at 8to15- below 8 felt like not enough air when first put on

my 90% is at around 11 to 12 - I rarely get up over 14-

think I should boost bottom up a little more??

I feel like it is all working--am just tinkering now

heated hose so I could use twilight NP was a big help

also got Pursleep and it seems to help also- not really seeing help with numbers but I like it!

what is reasonable goal?? can you tell difference from AHI 2 to AHI 0??
