Help Regular cpap user-Again have problems for last few days

Post by bangy104 » Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:13 pm

I have been a regular cpap user for last 6 - 8 months but for last 2 - 3 weeks I am again having same problems like lethargy , not feeling fresh in the morning, unable to sleep for more than 5 hours at a strech etc.. I usually sleep for 7 - 8 hours however after 5 - 6 hours I keep getting up every 30 - 45 mins or so and then go back to uneasy sleep although i am still lying down but i feel my mind is in a semi - awake state. The first 5 hours of sleep is really good but after that it is sleep with frequent interuptions and the quality is not good.

My Cpap numbers are excellent and have been so for the whole time since I started treatment

Here are the numbers from 8/16 - 8/29

Avg 90% Pressure 13.0
Avg Pressure 11.1
Avg Non Responsive AHI 0.0
Average OAI 0.7
Avg HI 1.3
Avg AHI 2.0
Avg FLI 1.1
Avg VSI 15.1
Avg Max Leak 79.1
Avg 90% Leak 40.0
Avg Leak 32.3
Avg Large Leak 0 mins

Any inputs will be highly appreciated

FYI I have remstar auto cpap with swift mask and although I do have a heated humidifer but I am currently not using it as I did not find any difference in using the machine with or without humidifier

Yeah, that does seem pretty confusing.

Have you had any other health issues come up over these past 2-3 weeks? A cold/sinus infection/allergies or something like that could possibly sap your energy and make it hard to sleep.

Have you had any unusual stress lately? Or had any kind of changes to your life that may be stressing you out more than you're aware of? Started taking any new medications?

Unfortunately, there are so many variables... countless things that can still make you feel like crap even when your xPAP therapy seems to be going fine. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I hope you get it figured out.

Hang in there!

Bangy104,
I don't claim any kind of expert status other than 19 months at this insanity called CPAP therapy. I don't see anything "fishy" in your figures. Pretty good according to the theories I understand. Are there any disturbances in your sleep area, noise, pets, etc? Are you using any sleep aids? I very frequently take naproxen and Benedryl. I find if I have not had eight hours, they drag me down next morning. Are you practicing good sleep hygiene with routine times, careful diet, using the bed for sex and sleep only, etc?

Good luck finding the root of your problems.

TerryB

What's your pressure range?
Maybe you need to move your bottom pressure setting to your 90% number.
Maybe the pressure changes are disturbing your sleep.

Actually, I've experienced some of those same situations periodically (and recently). Get about 5 hours of sleep and then feel like it should be time to get up....it isn't....and then have to get back to sleep. Unfortunately, after I've gotten back to sleep, I'm usually in some really DEEP sleep when the alarm goes off.
(Hate it when that happens!)

I think it's time to replace the mask when that happens. Do a thorough cleaning, including soaking for a few hours in a vinegar/water solution, and see if that helps.

If not, definitely a new mask.

Cheers,
B.
