1st Night NO problems

Post by Chappy » Wed Aug 29, 2007 11:08 pm

Last night was my first night using my CPAP and I had absolutely NO problems. My mask fit perfect--not too tight and no leaks! The mask never came off nor did I experience any discomfort. When I woke up, I felt totally refreshed. My mouth wasn't dry at all. My level was a "14" and my humidity on three (50%). My Doc said my OSA was "severe times three"... Needless to say, I feel great! I was a little skeptical because I had read a lot of threads with lots of complaints and what not. I had a great Sleep Center fit me with a good mask and perform a great study giving me a good starting point. I'm also glad I found this web site. I've discovered a whole community of people with a similar problem to mine. Looking forward to becoming a prominent member of this board!!!

It's always nice to hear good first-timer stories, since I will be starting soon.

Congrats! On the good night. Just remember you will have those bad nights also, but don't give up!

That's wonderful! As Tuna said, there will be bad nights, but everyone has bad nights sometimes even if they don't have OSA. Just don't let a bad night stress you out. Keep up the good work!

I am so glad that you posted about your good first night. I get my mask and machine tomorrow, and you've made me hopeful that I won't have to fight all night.

I did well at the sleep study with the mask, so I anticipate no problems tomorrow night. I'm praying for a good night and to start feeling better.

Congratulations to you

It would be great if you would edit your Profile (see the icon at the top of the web page named Profile) to see what equipment you are using. : ) If you choose to do so, your equipment will show up at the bottom of your posts, even posts posted before editing your profile to show your equipment. Handy : )

Welcome and congrats!!!

equipment

Post by Chappy » Fri Aug 31, 2007 10:14 pm

I've updated my profile so that the equipment I use is visable. As for an update, everything is still great. I haven't had problems yet, except for the mark on my forhead in the morning. The thing I hate is the fact that I can't chat with my wife before we fall asleep. I say goodnight, but then there is always something more to say and speaking with the mask is not easy.

Boy I understand you there. And my husband just doesn't understand how hard it is, and gets annoyed with my hand signals...

For the mark on your forehead, get padacheeks! You can got to http://www.padacheek.com or Just PM padacheek. Karen is a forum member and cpap user so she understands the importance of comfortable treatment.

A hand signal beats the heck out of a pillow signal : ) For years, many times before we go to sleep we bop each other with a pillow. I have to say, getting bopped with the mask on is easier than without. Score one for xPAP : )

Congrats, Chappy!

Hopefully all is still going well for you. I too am one of the lucky ones that had success on Day 1.

I am about 2 months into it, and have yet to have a "bad" night, though I have had a few restless moments on a couple of nights due to experimenting a bit with different pillows, another mask, etc....

Then I got lucky and was able to get in on one of the Pur-Sleep test offers from "Sleepguy". Since then, I have fallen to sleep much faster, and wake only once or twice a night for very brief moments to roll over, make minor adjustments to my mask and/or pillow, then fall immediately back to sleep.

I cannot attribute all of improvements in falling to sleep (and back to sleep) quicker, to Pur-Sleep, but I believe it contributed somewhat. I think just getting used to the whole "ordeal", and having found a good mask, pillow, etc, also contributed a fair share to my success.

Anyway, enough about me, I wish you continued success as well!!
Currently using:
Fisher & Paykel HC640, heated, humidified
Respironics Optilife Mask
Innomed Hybrid Mask (to be used on occassions when nose is stuffed, etc)
