I recently purchased a Puritan-Bennett 420e with humidifier, after 2 fairly successful years with a Respironics APAP (tank) with humidifier. With the Respironics machine, to turn it off for the day I simply pressed the on/off button, took off the mask, and was done. (I cleaned the gear on the weekends.)
The instruction manual for the PB 420e states that to turn it off, I first should switch off the humidifier, then disconnect the power cord to the humidifier, then disconnect the water container from the connection to APAP, then disconnect both hoses. Am I reading the manual correctly? If so, do users of the PB 420e do this each morning, or is there a simpler method?
Thanks in advance for all thoughts.
How to turn off PB 420e?
When I wake up:
1. Take off mask
2. Turn off humidifier
3. Turn off machine
The reason for this sequence it that I prefer to turn off what I'm liable to forget and then the blowing machine that wont' let me forget it.
I also immediately disconnect the machine from humidifier because I don't want humidity near it when the air isn't blowing, and I put it on the humidifier crosswise, so the humidifier can cool easily.
I can do all these before I even get out of bed.
4. - which I sometimes forget - disconnect my heated hose and hang it on a hook on the door. Disconnecting any hose is a good idea because you want it to dry.
Later on I take the out the water tank, and close the drawer in which I keep the machines. I don't want the tank spreading humidity (little though it may be) in that closed drawer - and I also feel that it will have less visitors if it's in full light. Haven't had anything in the tank yet.
It's become a routine - and does not take that long actually.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

for the machine you just push the button.
if you are using the humidifier, you hit the black power button. Easy to forget and leave the humidifier On all day long, go to hardware store and pickup a $15 automatic timer and set it to be On during the time you sleep and you won't have to worry about turning on/off the humidifier.
I use one of these I got at Orchard Supply Hardware, think it was $12 bucks:

No you don't have to disconnect everything, I never have and never had a problem with it. Most of the time I don't use the heat at all.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
I just take off my mask and hit the off button on the 420E. Humidifier has run all day for over 2 years with no problems.
