questions when i pick up cpap tomorrow?

Post by golfcrazy » Sun Aug 26, 2007 11:45 am

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea on thurs and I was told by the doc at sleep clinic that he recommended surgery(throat stapling was mentioned) or cpap treatment. I have opted for cpap as I want something to try as soon as I can to see if it helps. I would just like to pool your experience for anything I should be looking to ask or check with the equipment 2morrow? Any help much appreciated!

Click on the yellow lightbulb and read all you can before you go.

Good Luck,

TRy to get a Auto machine if possible, with A-Flex or at least C-Flex or EPR. If all else fails be sure it is full data capability at the vewry least and not just compliance information. Needs to have a humidifier also.

If you can get that you are way ahead.

RiverDave's right -- hit the yellow lightbulb and read, read, read.....

With the information I got from the forum I asked the doc for a specific model and got it....I'm working on different masks. I started with the mask I titrated with, the ComfortGel.

As far as masks are concerned -- try as many as the DME/insurance will allow you to try. The nitty gritty of CPAP treatment is the mask -- you'll need to find one that fits and doesn't leak (much) -- I'm sure most here will tell you it's the "Holy Grail" of CPAP. I think we're all looking for the "perfect mask".....

Most of the blowers are good and will work just fine -- the ones with C-FLEX/A-FLEX or EPR and are full data ready and are a definite plus (compliance data is essentially useless) -- but it's the mask that will make or break the treatment.

Best advice I can give is keep at it. Don't give up. Don't expect miracles -- just know that it is what you need and it is going to work as long as you don't give up....

Good luck GolfCrazy -- keep us up on how you're doing!!!

cheers
goose
