if it is the RS-232 type it will have a PS2 style keyboard adapter along with the DB-9 connector, you have to plug that PS2 plug into the keyboard port then plug the keyboard into the adapter.

It supplies power from they keyboard port to drive the Card reader. The newer USB type get their power from the USB port.

The card reader needs 5-volt DC to operate.

At under $30.50 for the correct DT-3500, how much $$$ did you save for one you may never get to work? It pays to get the real one. Jim

NOPE that is NOT the PS2 style, you have even a different style, I would hunt around for a 5VDC power supply and plug it in that power port next to the cable, that is what it is for 5VDC power.

USB hubs use a 5VDC power supply, put on your glasses and look at some of those power supplies you may already have. The center "pin" is (+) positive.
