Question about sleep quality

Post by Shadowatcher » Sat Aug 18, 2007 4:29 pm

Hi all - I have been at the CPAP routine only 4 months now and do I feel a lot better. Since I started CPAP the quality of my sleep has been getting better. A couple of times in the past couple of weeks I have fallen asleep, sitting in my easy chair, while reading. During these periods my wife has come home from meetings and not taking care to be quit, but I have slept right through these events. My question is this after 4 months on the hose am I sleeping more soundly during these nap periods or do you think something else is happening?

from my experience yes you are sleeping more soundly. i used to have very bad dreams and wake every hour or so without the hose. now i go straight through 6 or 7 hours maybe to wake and hit the bathroom

Shadowatcher,

It sounds as if your body is still catching up on the sleep and rest that you missed before you began cpap therapy. It is known as a "sleep deficit." In time you will catch up on your sleep and rest and not nap during the day.

By the way, never nap without using cpap. You will regress in your therapy.

What the others said......and make sure you're not mouth-leaking.

Thank you all for the replies.

Amos - When I fall asleep in my chair it is an unplanned nap. When I nap on purpose I do use the hose.

Din - I am still fighting the mouth leak problem, it's getting better but no gold ring - yet.
