Quattro-Quattro-Quattro!
Quattro-Quattro-Quattro!
Today is my one year anniversary of being a cpaptalk forum member.
One thing I have learned as a participant in this forum, is to not rush out with a review of a cpap mask after trying it for only a few days.
Seeing that today also marks four full weeks of using the Mirage Quattro mask, I figured it’s only fitting that I give my perspective of the mask.
I know that other reviews of this mask have been pretty mixed (as for ALL cpap masks)
Many people have complained about the leaky elbow issue. Some found that to be a problem right away, for others it took a few weeks before that problem developed.
After 4 weeks, I have NOT had this problem, to any degree.
All in all, I would say that this mask is an improvement over its predecessor, the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask , a.k.a. “UMFF”
I haven’t had any problems with the bridge of my nose at all. It seems that once I found the right number on the forehead dial adjustment, (which in my case is number 9) that was the end of all adjustments needed.
I do use the Pad-a-Cheek forehead piece (the one made for UMFF and Activa) as I always do for my masks, because my forehead gets irritated without it.
I find that I can wear the straps pretty loose on this mask, similar to the fit of the Activa.
The face cushion on this mask is very comfortable, and I haven’t had any leak problems. I use a medium in the Mirage Quattro, just like I did for the UMFF.
My DME seemed surprised that it fit so well in spite of me having a burly old beard.
I will say that I’ve been sleeping better with this mask, and feeling more rested upon awakening.
At first I wasn’t sure about the way the forehead piece is designed without strap clips, because I thought it might be a hassle when disconnecting the top straps for my daily mask washing. But now I actually think it’s a good idea the way the top straps just slide out of the end slots. Daily cleaning with Dawn soap is a breeze, but I should mention, I HAVE NOT disassembled the silicone face cushion of this mask.
Sometimes you can never be too cautious when it comes to evaluating cpap masks, but I don’t think I can really say anything bad about the Mirage Quattro at this point. This is not to say that there won’t be problems down the road, but after 4 weeks, I think it’s *somewhat safe* to say that I really like this mask, and it’s become my number one preferred mask

ya'd think if one paid $200+ for an interface like that it would come with a roll of teflon tapeTitrator wrote:Hi Vader,
Plumbers thread tape or Teflon tape as it is called will fix that elbow in a flash. Just pull the elbow out of the mask frame and wrap about 3 wraps of the tape around the end of the elbow and pop it back in. Leaks are gone. Easy fix and cheap.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

But luckily, as I said, I haven't had any problem with the elbow.
If the problem does develop in the future, I guess I'll have to go for broke and buy a roll of tape.

Congrats on the one year
The swivel leak started on my Quattro after about six weeks of usage, solved that leak by putting one end of a rubber band around the left side head gear clip and the other end of the rubber band around the fitting where the hose attaches. The pressure of the rubber band holds the swivel down enough to stop the leak, the rubber band kind of pulls the swivel to the left because its around the left clip, but will stretch and does not restrict movement of the swivel when i lay on either side.

Good for you and thanks for the encouraging report. I bought a Quattro this week and will try it out in the next few days.

and I'll add your elbow fix suggestion to my back-up plan list, if my elbow ever fails.

Congratz on your first year....
I too believe reviews for any long term usage item should only be given after an adequate trial period.
I recently was lucky enough to get in on the Pur-Sleep trial. I experienced several restless nights when first using the Pur Sleep aromatics. However, I had several changes occur to my sleep environment during the first week. If I had posted my experience with Pur Sleep ther first few days, I would have said that I did not receive any benefits from it. My opinion of it after two full weeks is quite positive.
....and by the way, I think your "handle" and avatar are a wee bit silly
