Lost CPAP at Philly Airport.

Post by wkosturko » Thu Aug 16, 2007 7:42 am

I was waiting for my Southwest flight departing gate e10 at Philly airport for orlando on 08/06. I noticed somebody forgot their respironics CPAP machine at the gate. My wife told me I forgot mine, but mine was strapped to my shoulder. Hope the owner found it!!!

That's pretty scary, in more ways than one!

Rather than leave it sitting there I'd have been inclined to take it to the nearest airline ticket desk or security. Or even just turned it in to airline personnel at the boarding gate as I boarded the plane.

Most likely IF the owner realized it was missing soon enough they'd have gone back to the last place they remembered having it - and if I'd moved it they wouldn't find it - BUT - most likey it still wouldn't have been there anyway, someone else would have picked it up and possibly NOT turned it in to the airline or security.

At least if the airline or security is given possession of it there is some way for the owner to try to track it down.

You might of at least checked it out, it might have been your upgrade you ordered and the DME, just sat it there for you, out of the goodness of his heart. (Do DME's even have Hearts?)

I don't drag mine around, but when I took it to the hospital I marked my name and SSN on the bag in Big Ugly White indrustal marker. And taped the same to the bottom of the machine. Jim

Great, just great, GoofProof!!! You just gave the local DMEs yet another lame brain excuse for where our upgrades are or what has happened to them. Sheesh!!!

I hope whomever it was found it! I absolutely do not want to ever be without mine! IDing your machine and gear is a good idea! I usually take a Metallic Sharpie to EVERYTHING and label it!

Good idea, Jim! I'm going to do that, too. Plus, I may write my name all over the machine using white paint. I was aghast when I heard the poster's story about their getting stolen while they went through security screening and the Homeland Security folks just shrugging their shoulders and saying "Not our problem."

I hope whoever it was that lost it got it found!

You didn't report a unattended package just sitting?

I don't want to travel with you.

Do you ever listen to the announcements?

Name, Address and Cell Phone number is what I would put on mine. NEVER carry your SSN in your wallet or on your CPAP! If you DO leave it, then the SSN may be more valuable to the thief then the CPAP.

I use a Sanford "Mean Stick". It is a paint marker. I've seen it last a year marking a final drive on a D11 Cat Dozer.

I hope person had equipment tagged with his name and phone # otherwise chances of getting it back are slim to none.
Always make sure you take your CPAP as carryon. One of RNs I work with has friends who are baggage handlers and they seriously play "Who can throw the luggage the farthest" with the bags. Ouch-I don't want my CPAP machine thrown across airport. I'm sure the airline would say they aren't responsible if damaged.
