Need help finding best new masks

Post by ScottGA » Thu Aug 16, 2007 7:09 am

Hello all:
I have not been on in several months, but now need some input. I use the Resp Comfortgel nasal mask and have learned to love it, or atleast tolerate it effectively. My APAP machine usually runs on about 9-10. The problem is that my mask squeaks or rattles a good bit, agitating the wife considerably, interfering with her sleep, even with her using a sound machine. The situations is probably made worse from heavy caffeine drink consumption, causing some face twitching at night when I put on the mask, lol. Anyway, I am looking for others who experience similar squeaks, esp. between the head part and the nasal part of the mask where it sort of rattles or squeaks at the joints.
This whole subject has also gotten me thinking about trying some new masks too. I have heard of one that rests on your face and the hose doesn't tug on that part when you move around at night in bed. I've rambled, but any suggestions on fixing the rattles or identifying a new nasal mask, I would appreciate it.

I just love the mirage activa! I'll admit - I'm a mask-a-holic and have tried lots!

I always keep going back to the mirage activa.

Why? I can put it on at night, don't have to adjust it (once I got it adjusted correctly), and head to sleep.

Some member don't like it because it is noisy to them - to me or my hubby- it's not.

Bulky? Perhaps, but I can sleep on my back and on either side without waking up.

AHI for me - gone down to 0.5. I do use pur-sleep and know this helps my AHI greatly.

I have a pressue setting of 7-9 and a average leak rate of 27 %.

I do have my hose routed above my head on a stand made of PVC pipe with a bungie cord securing my hose.

I highly recommend this mask! It is the only mask I've tried which I can put it on go to sleep and not have to adjust at all during the night.

Feel free to PM if you have any ?'s.

I am using F&P 405. So far it is the quietest mask among all I have tried. You can check in my signature my entire mask’s diary.

caffine

Hi, I am new here so don't know if caffine has been discussed with apnea. But in my recent eval. the doc told me to avoid it. It is not compatible with apnea. I don't know the details as to why... maybe your twitching is associated with it.

good luck

I agree the caffeine is causing the face twitching at night. Also, the nuisance of the mask is doing it. I just received the IQ mask with the holey head gear and tried it last night. No leaks, no issues with twitching and noise. It does have a leak rate about 40-45, whcih is higher than the Comfortgel of about 25, but all other data looked good. I may have to buy this style of mask from now on.
