What can I do to keep nose clear:RESMED S8 Compact System

Post by brians2000 » Sun Aug 12, 2007 2:05 pm

My technicion said if I go to bed with a clear nose then I should wake with one also since I have a heated humidifier. I have my humidifier turned all the way up but I still wake up with my nose closed. I use a heated humidifier but it doesnt help. I dont want to stop using my mask because it never leaks. Thanks, Brian

A few things.....

Have you tried the humidifer at lower settings? It's counterintuitive but a higher setting can cause more condensation therefore allowing less moisture to get to your airways.

Are you a new user? Sometimes it's just part of the adjustment phase no matter what you do.

Re: what the technician said...........Nothing is absolute in this field. Take it with a grain of salt.

Speaking of a grain of salt.......you could try a saline spray or rinse also.

Hi Bryan-

Try easing the pressure on the bridge of your nose if you can. Too much pressure there will make your nasal passages block.

I have the same system you do, and I found it helped to turn my humidifier down to 2.

Originally, I had mine set higher, and woke up the first morning with a major headache and a massively blocked up nose.

I loosened up my straps, so that I wasn't pulling the mask tight against the bridge of my nose.

Both of these techniques have helped, and I haven't had any more problems.

All of the above suggestions are good to try! I also do the saline nasal spray a few minutes before turning on the xpsp. I'm very surprised ypu're not getting rainout with the humidifier set that high. Lowering it just a bit might help some.
