ACTIVA! Size Does Matter
ACTIVA! Size Does Matter
Ok….I thought I should make a post regarding the Mirage ACTIVA. I have heard many on here say that this is a wonderful mask and I wanted to throw in my two cents worth.
The Activa doesn’t fit me, it is about ½ inch to long and to use it I have to actually set in flat on my upper lip. This isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world. HOWEVER, I have to say that even sitting on my lip, when I get that mask to seal it does seal. If I can relax enough to go to sleep with that mask on my face I can get better sleep than with any other mask I have ever slept in.
I have tried the shallow and the standard and the standard fits me the best even though it is still to long. Why can’t we get this mask in a small??????

Because it's made by men, for men.
When a woman starts making cpap masks, I predict you'll start seeing more small sizes come out.
Men don't believe size matters. Trust me.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

LOL!
Amen to that, Dieselgal! I have the standard size and so far it works well. Like you, I do have to position it a bit irregularly to get it to work. My RT and I have found it best just to leave the forehead piece upright and position it without it even touching at all. The bottom part touches more of my upper lip area than I would like and it still is right at the corner of my eyes. At any rate it must be working. My data was checked this morning and I had a nonexistant leak rate! I wanted to try the shallow, but after hearing that there isn't a real size difference, I'm thinking there isn't any use in it. This would be an AWESOME mask if it only were a scoosh smaller!

Drummergirl, I tried the shallow first and it seemed to be a little wider which would accommodate a wider bridge. But unless you have a wide nose I think you are better off with the standard. Now if we could get someone to listen and make it smaller they would give thumbs up rave reviews!

I'm talking about this mask in the Mirage Vista thread and have asked him (Snoredog) to measure it for me from the center top to the center bottom. I have trouble with masks being too tall/long too!
And I agree, size DOES matter : ) If they start making masks for women, we will see many of the current dimensions change. That may pose a marketing/profit problem for them. How many women are on xPAP as compared to men?

Funny, I've done an awful lot of looking at that Vista lately too! If I knew it sealed as well as the Activa, it'd be my next mask when my six months are up. That headgear minus the forehead piece really appeals to me! I think, if I remember right, you can get that one in a small. Or the Kidsta if worst comes to worst! My nose is small! The small/medium Breathe Right strips eere even too big, LOL!

Hypothetically... Could you take a dremel and just chop off that forehead piece? (I'm not looking at the mask, I'm just imagining)
Or would you lose a headgear connecting point? If you lost a forehead connecting point, could you conceivably jerry rig a new connecting point? Maybe super glue something to the mask, or do the famoust panty hose leg strap?
Just musing...

I think the decapitationof the Activa forehead piece might be difficult, but not impossible. Yes, you would loose a comection point to the upper headgear straps, but I bet you could jerry rig a solution with a bit of ingenuity. It would be nice if they made the Activa type mask with the Vista headgear! You'd have the best of both worlds... a great seal and nothing near your eyes!
