Be very careful with your essential oils and cats.

You may want to read this article:

http://cats.about.com/od/housekeeping/a ... herapy.htm

I have three cats and just recently was informed of the dangers of essential oils and cat's inability to metabolize them.

To keep the cats away from the machine...put the machine in a cat carrier. The carriers have plenty of vents for air to move around and protect your machine. In the morning you can even tuck you hose and mask inside, if need be.

Brenda! You must be the one who told me that hint when I first joined this board! I was having problems with my cat chewing the hose. After reading your suggestion, I immediately put my machine in a cat carrier and it has been perfect! It is also very helpful when I decide to take a nap downstairs - I can just carry the whole cat carrier down and it has everything all together and tidy.

Ah...the differences between cats and dogs. My dogs have been completely uninterested in every aspect of my cpap and pur-sleep (well, one dog gave the creme bottle a lick and recoiled immediately). But, if I put the machine in their carrier, I'll bet they wouldn't leave it alone!

I'd get a gunny sack and a river and keep that cat from the oils

My cat is too busy sleeping to bother my hoses.
I just want to go back to sleep!

use a hose cover for added insurance

Post by girlsaylor » Wed Aug 08, 2007 5:39 am

I don't know if it's total protection, but a hose cover seems thick enough to provide a good bit of protection for the hose. Now I just need to cover the hose from the machine to the humidifier. lololol

I do have 2 dogs as well, but they are not interested in the machine or oils!

My dog (as seen in my avatar) isn't very interested either. However the first orning he came into my room and noticed the mask, he kind of backpedaled a little. A few mornings later, he just stood there and looked at me and then surprisingly got closer! His expression read, "now what's different about this picture?"

My cat loves the air vent on mask

But he doesn't seem to like the pur sleep scents so I guess I do not have to worry about him ingesting them.

It is not just a matter of the cat ingesting the oils, having them in the air around the cat and the cat breathing them still accumulates in the cat's liver. I make my cats sleep outside my room now when I'm using my pursleep. I've also stopped using my plug in essential oil burner for that reason.

And the oils are not harmful to us? Seems strange.

That should work. Cats and cat carriers naturally repel each other.
