New to RESMED S8 Compact System. How do you like it

Post by brians2000 » Mon Aug 06, 2007 6:50 pm

Hi I just got the RESMED S8 Compact System so I was wondering if their is anything I should know before I began using it. Is this a good machine for CPAP therapy?

Resmed is one of the leading CPAP manufacturers and you will get excellent therapy w/your Compact.

I have the Resmed S8 Elite from my local DME supplier and I was so pleased w/it I self-purchased a Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage.

Hopefully, you have a GOOD local DME supplier AND a good sleep doctor who will follow up w/you and be readily available for assistance if you need it.

I've been using an Resmed S7 Lightweight* (at home) and a S8 Lightweight (while travelling) for several years now and they have been very rugged, reliable and effective CPAP machines.

*The Australian "Lightweight" model is basically a very similar machine to the US "Compact" model, just with a different name for a different market.

Cheers,

Bill

I've used, and currently own, a Resmed S8 Elite w/EPR, a RemStar Auto w/C-Flex and a Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage. And had a loaner RemStar Auto w/C-Flex. Plus I have the Resmed AutoScan 5.7 and ResScan software and reader and the Respironics EncorePro software and reader and the MyEncore software.

My PERSONAL preference is for the Resmeds. My first Elite was noisier than my current Elite, not particularly bad, but noisier. My loaner RemStar Auto was noisier than my purchased RemStar Auto, again not real noisy. My Vantage is as quiet as the second Elite and the second RemStar Auto. I haven't tried a Respironics M Series but from reading the apnea forums it appears to be more a matter of the individual xPAP than the brand or model.

I think I remember seeing the decibels for each machine listed at cpap.com's pages on each brand and model's specifications information.

Slinky,
Are you saying you have both the Resmed AutoScan 5.7 and ResMed ResScan software packages? If so, do you discern any particular advantage of one over the other? Further, where might the ResScan package be acquired?

Thanks in advance!!

Yep. I have both. AutoScan on my desktop. ResScan on my laptop. I haven't noticed much difference but then I've barely used the ResScan as my laptop is slower than my desktop and for the time being not as convenient to use at home. My laptop is primarily for travel. There are others here w/more experience w/the two than I have.
