I have to admit to all of you my personal experience of CPAP

Post by Ioannispolo » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:26 pm

I began experiencing fatigue some years before, I finished college which I succeeded with great difficulties because of what I thought was OSA. Then I had to get a living and I started working. They fired me from work because of me falling asleep in my desk.I was not so productive and ppl were aware of my poor condition. Though, I fought it and and I changed a lot of jobs. Now Im attending a seminar where I get paid 4 it, thanks GOD and I manage to get along. My point is that my fatigue, headaches, apnea are kind of symptons of a more important disease. I have to say that I suffer from chronic depression and that apnea is a symptom, though I do have also Obstructive Sleep apnea and CSA, mixed events and Im thinking Do i have to go through a surgery to allign the deviated septum, which is totally painfull and I have done three surgeries until now (removal of 2 wisdom teeth, gagging, and foot nail removal). Though there is a certain esthetic problem in my upper part of the nose I consider the surgery to be of some benefit. The conclusion is I probably will not benefit from the surgery, and I will have to go through medication which will probably have side-effects and that's what is worrying me. Let's go to more fun things now. In November I will take the examination for the Proficiency in the English Language. Do you think i will succeed? remember I have lived my puberty in the US. Bye and have a nice day to all of you. Its 2.24 am in Greece now and I have to get up early tomorrow

I'm no expert, but depending on what kind of surgery you're talking about, it's something I'd probably think of as a last resort if xPAP therapy didn't work for you.

Your post didn't say how long you've been on xPAP. What have your results been like with it so far?

I would also like to mention that contrary to what you apparently heard (or were told by your doctor), people very often are diagnosed with depression, when in fact it turns out afterward that they had OSA, whose symptoms can look like those of depression, but which go away when the OSA is treated properly. OSA itself is not a 'symptom' of depression, though it is possible, of course, to really have clinical depression with OSA, and to have OSA without depression (especially if you're being treated!). In other words you may go for years being half asleep all day, appropriately irritable, frustrated, upset and possibly get fired from your job, crash your car, etc. and be told you have 'depression', but if you have OSA and get treated, it MAY lead to all symptoms of depression going away (because you were never actually 'depressed', just very tired.
