Went back to the Quattro FF mask last night.....uggghhhhh...

Post by elazarus » Fri Aug 03, 2007 9:25 am

After my post of Wednesday about the results and the major leakage on my mask....I took the advice of forum members and went back to the FF Quattro (the only True FF I own and not including Hybrid, Liberty etc).

Well, last night I was awakened all night long by the "Sounds of leakage" No matter which was I turned there was leakage. If I had pulled the mask any tighter by the time 4 am came around I would have cut off circulation to my head.

I guess the Quattro is not for me.....and there is more leakage than with the Swift 2 and Chin strap.

Any thoughts on a FF mask that you have found not to be a "leaker"...knowing that they all have some amount as being normal?

Thank you from an exhausted leaker

Elliot

Hi! I don't know if this will be helpful to you, but I'm a nurse in a stepdown ICU. We get many patients to our unit specifically for bipap therapy. Our patients come in many different shapes and sizes. The only mask we have is a Fisher and Paykel FF mask. I don't see the exact headgear on the cpap.com website so I'm not sure which model it is, but we only have leakage problems on our patients if they move the mask to take a drink of water and don't get it back on properly. Have you tried an F&P FF mask? If not you might want to consider it.

I LOVE MY PUR-SLEEP!! Please check it out:

I wouldn't be able to tolerate my therapy without it.

Also, thanks to Karen and Pad-a-cheeks!! Now no one knows that I'm a hosehead unless I tell them.

Just as an FYI, many of us have discovered the quattro leaks very badly around the elbow. If you pop out the elbow, and wrap it a few turns on either end with teflon plumbers tape, the sound disappears.
The Force? Duct Tape is the Force. It has a light side & a dark side & holds the whole damn univers together!

Quattro

Thanks for responding.

I have found that the Quattro leaks towards my eyes and when I fix that with the "Dial" then it starts out the bottom. Tightening the headgear starts the process all over again.

No, I have not tried the F&P FF.....I see there are 2 of them, a 431 and I think it was a 432....which one is the model that you think you have had the success with?

As for the headgear, I am sure there are many choices and narrowing it down should not be that difficult once I know the specific model.

Again, thank you

Elliot

I configured my Quattro adjustments just like I did my Ultra Mirage FF......loose top straps and all the tension on the bottom straps.....forehead piece in full-upright position (doesn't even touch my forehead). Actually, the bottom straps are not very snug, either.....I can wear mine a little looser than my UMFF.

Last night I had the lowest leak rate ever with my Quattro.....31.87 (at 12 cm.)......almost a totally flat line.
AHI was 0.7
Snore Index was a different story.....I had a "snorefest" last night for about an hour.

If yours is leaking around your eyes, make sure you got the right size.

Crazy, I went back to the Quattro last night also. My best sleep comes from using the optilife and taping my mouth shut. But after a few weeks this gets old (mouth sore and nose starting to look piggish) so I switch to another mask. I have a large and medium version. I used both last night without real success. I've teflon taped both (thanks everyone for this suggestion!) and like it because it's quiet and I don't have to tape. But, the large size leaks at the eyes and they get puffy, the medium seems to make me more stuffy. So I switch in the middle of the night and get a few more hours sleep.

I've tried both F&P 431/432, I have leaks with both. As Snoredog comments, the masks would be better with some way to adjust at the forehead. But, I did like that they were quiet.

I would love a full face mask that's... lightweight (like optilife without hose clip), quiet (diffused holes), no multi-part (like hybrid) and adjustable on the top and bottom of the nose.

But until then, I'll follow others advise... switch masks often, add everything (except pantyhose) and eagerly await the nest shipment from cpap.com

Good luck, I know your pain.
Al

Im glad Im not the only one who has trouble with the quattro. I have a raw nose bridge. Still have not figured out how to adjust it right. And on top of it all, my DME got dropped from my insurance and I got moved to the famous "A" company. We shall see.

Kevin (with a raw nose bridge but not quitting on cpap as I feel too good)
