Noisy Mask Problem

Post by JayPSU » Wed Aug 01, 2007 2:10 pm

I use a the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask and never had any problems until my doctor switched me to a BiPap machine with a different pressure. My pressure settings now are 21 in-bound, 14 out-bound. I have no problem dealing with that much air, but I'm having a problem with the mask. If I leave it loose like you're supposed to, the seal isn't quite right and some air slips out of the mouth area, and in a LOUD "horn" like way, almost like a mouth fart sound (hard to explain the sound). The sound wakes me up and a lot of times, my wife as well. The only way to avoid that is to make the mask VERY tight which marks up my face, gives me pimples, and i still end up with periods where the mask moves a bit and makes that sound. Anyone have experience with this and suggestions.

Get ahold of Padacheek. She made a cover for me that allows me to use the mask quite tight and leaves no marks. The cover goes between the mask and the skin. My leak rate went up 4 points, but I still got a good AHI (2.1) so it seems to work for me. Might be worth it for you to ask her about it.

My UMFF used to sound like that "bull-frog" when breathing in/out also. I have 3 of them and they all do it.
