Do you stop breathing during the day?

Post by Sammy_J » Tue Jul 24, 2007 1:12 pm

On a hunch, I decided to wear my mask and use my APAP while just relaxing, checking out the images on my camera. I was doing this for around 15 minutes. During that time, I looked over and I noticed that my APAP's pressure was rising. I downloaded the data to my PC and I noticed that the APAP was recording a few events during that time.

Has anyone noticed this before or caught themselves "forgetting to breathe"?

I wouldn't give much credence to anything reported by the machine when I'm awake. APAPs are designed to respond to breathing patterns that occur in sleep, and those are very different from the breathing patterns of wakefulness. When you want to know the temperature outside, you don't measure it in a bucket of water.

If you're worried about your breathing when you're awake, APAP is not the way to check it.

I have periods where I have to consciously think about and remember to breathe......

That's been happening to me all my life so to me it's no big deal.....

I'm more concerned about what's happening while I'm sleeping.....

cheers

Of course not, but it's right there at your disposal for some checking...besides, there is nothing wrong putting a bucket full of water outside to see if it freezes to determine if it's below freezing outside.

I agree daytime breathing patterns are much different - I think its normal to do and I think everyone does it. SO long as your dont stop breathing for a minute staight lol then you might have issues but we do hesitiate ibn our breathing during the day. Especially doing something like looking at a camers especially if you were resting it on yourself as you lean back and look at it since your stomach or chest moving would move it up and down and youd unconsciously hesitate your breathing to look Im sure. ANyhow yeah.....daytime breating is alot less patterned I think and the machines looking for a pattern.
