New machine and it still has to be manually adjusted for altitude... What are they thinking?!?!?

And I for one WANT my DME to make even more money and I WANT to have reminders to call them and let them sell me overpriced masks and such. NOT!

I'm sorry, I am a Resmed fan but this is not a machine that calls me to buy.

ResMed bills this as their "competitively priced" "standard device". Meaning this is their fixed pressure CPAP with a comparatively low-end feature set and price to match.

Their S8 AutoSet should have the same physical foot print, AutoSet mode, BiLevel mode, higher-end features (likely auto altitude adjustment), and a higher price to match----that is if rumors hold true.

Makes sense that the are ready to release the more basic of the two S8 machines first.

R&R,
I agree. The ad encourages taking more money from patients and keeping control out of their hands. "Compliance" data is useless for the user as well. It should at least have AHI info. That would help determine if the set pressure is correct.

Thanks for this and your recent posts Mike, the information provided as a consequence through this Board has been invaluable.
Re S8, I am glad I have my Remstar Auto with Cflex and Software and did not postpone purchasing pending the release of the S8. Whilst the brochure is clearly aimed at DMEs and hence may stress only those improvements most relevant to them it appears to me the emphasis in the "improvements" has largely been on cementing the reliance of patients on their DME and creating a machine that will be attractive to DMEs, with relatively little regard being shown for improving patient benefits. For example I could not see any suggestion of user friendly features like: Cfex (or something similar) more useful data than compliance being readily available to patients, or the option of running the unit connected to 12 V power sources, which could be significant to travellers, for example, as compared to now providing reminders that the patient should buy a new mask or filters, presumably set by time periods geared to what might be acceptable to insurers, rather than the actual condition of the mask or filter.

David - Remember this is the low end of the S8 series. Kinda like comparing a Remstar Plus to a Remstar Auto with Cflex.

May be I should apologise to Resmed. But I did not see a suggestion in the brochure that the model is their "economy model" of a new line with the small footprint, which is probably the case. However friend of mine, that has been on CPAP for several years, went through the embarassing experience a few years ago of "trading up" from the Sullivan unit he had owned for some years, to the then new Resmed unit, believing he was improving his equipement, only to discover the new unit was more basic than the unit he had disposed of.

From a size standpoint it looks good to me. But no discussion of a heated humidifier is included, which appears to make the unit considerably larger when it is announced. Also, what about an oximetry module in the Autopap model. I like Resmed and their products very much, but not enough is known at this time about follow on products that will be more desireable. I did notice an option in the brochure for an Autoscan 5.6 kit which would be an upgrade from their current Autoscan 5.4 software.

I won't become interested until I see the Autopap version.

Escape - ResMed S8 cpap machine
Dimensions (H x W x D)
4.6 in x 6.5 in x 5.7 in
(112 mm x 164 mm x 145 mm)
Weight
Flow generator: 2.9 lbs (1.3 kg)

420G - Puritan Bennett Goodknight cpap machine
Dimensions 5.6" x 2.9" x 7.7"
Weight CPAP: 1.54 lbs.; Power Supply Module (included): 1.16 lbs.; Total weight 2.7 lbs.

2.9" tall is all the 420 machines are. About the height of two videocassettes stacked. Guess what, ResMed...THAT's a size that people (women especially) can easily get the fingers and thumb of one hand around and still have a finger loose on the same hand to catch up the power supply. No matter what the light weight of your puffed up little machine, it will still take two hands to carry it around. pffft.

Resmed says :
The S8 Escape™ goes where you go. From the biggest name in quality sleep therapy products comes the world’s smallest CPAP.* Featuring a compliance card, the versatile new Personal Assistant, and 12V/24V DC power outputs, the S8 Escape makes convenient SDB therapy mobile.
*Based on total volume displacement.
Volume Resmed S8 = 112 x 164 x 145 = 2.66 Liter
Volume PB42xx = 142 x 195 x 75 mm = 2.07 Liter
Volume Kaerys KXS* = 60 x 92 x 180 = 0.99 Liter

*Available in Europe only

RG,

It looks to me like the new S8 has a handle that flips up for one handed carrying. If you look at the LARGE picture on the linked brochure it is easier to see. I think it is folded flat around the top of display area.

I does look like no matter how small the machine is, ResMed can't get away from that over-inflated balloon look for their machines.
Sincerely,

Yes, does appear to have a handle like the S7. But how much is "lightweight". And "world's smallest", is that in cubic inches or what. Give us some facts to back up the claim..probably takes the same humidifier as the S7 is why it is so tall.

Per the website:

If you you buy one now you get a DELUXE travel bag (limited time offer)

Where can I get one and how much is it?
