ResMed Elite menus

Hi.
I've been lurking for some time since being diagnosed OSA in June. I've been using a ResMed S8 Elite since June 29th. I've been reading this forum since before my sleep study and have gleaned much helpful information. The PA at the Pulmonary office even remarked on how much research I had done on the subject. Thanks to you all for making me feel so comfortable.

I know my machine has more information than I can get to right now. I would like to know more about the settings on my CPAP before I go back to the Dr. so I can know what is going on and at least talk about it knowledgeably. I notice that many of you are privy to such information and would like to know how to access it myself on my machine. I don't care to change anything this early in the game - too chicken (got plenty of feathers!)

S7 and S8 machines:

While pressing the Down arrow button, press and hold down the righthand button. Hold both buttons down together for several seconds.

That brings up the "Welcome" clinical menu.

Use the up/down button to navigate to the settings menu.

Use the left button to "Change" settings. A "Change" will not be saved until you hit the left key again under the word "Apply".

It's safe to walk through the changes just to see what they would be. When looking at a "Change" setting, the up/down arrow buttons will scroll through the possible changes of that setting. As long as you don't press the left button under the word "Apply", no change will actually happen. If you want to back out of the "Change" without changing the setting, press the righthand button under the word "Exit."

Use the right button under the word "Exit" to go backwards from whatever menu section you're in. Hit "Exit" several times to exit your way backwards completely out of the clinical menu.

I'd suggest just walking through the entire menu the first time through, making NO changes at all. Just write down every number, every word, every symbol. You'll have those notes to go back to if you decide to make a change and then find you don't like the change you made after all.

If you want to access the data w/o the worry of accidentally changing any of your therapy settings it is just as easy to press the Left and Right buttons, hold for 3-4 seconds and that will take you to the Efficacy and Usage data menus where you can't change anything.

Thanks so much to all for your help. I don't know how I missed your post, Carrie, but I am going to check out the link now.

Does anyone use the Smart Start Function? I'm still fumbling with the hose and mask sometimes and I feel like I'm in a race with the machine so it doesn't show great leaks from the mask not fitting.

Life is great! Can't wait 'till I'm sleeping - for real.

I don't use the Smart Start feature because it was too slow turning off. If I remember correctly there is a mask fit check option that I used to use when I turned my machine on that gave me some time to adjust my mask fit before it started recording. But I haven't used it in so long ..... w/o checking the manual I "think" it was just a matter of pressing the Start button on and HOLDING it until the machine started rather than just pushing and releasing it to start the machine. It gave you maybe 5 minutes to check your mask fit: Excellent, Very Good, Good, on down to lousy fit, chuck the mask and get a new one.

Yup Slinkys right on the mask fit option just hold the start button for a few seconds. I dont use the smart start because I would just take it off in my sleep then and the cold air on my forehead would be there to wake me up lol. Actually now I use the leak alarm so I wake up if I take it off in my sleep and Actually I dont think I can even use the smart start with the alarm off the two are contradictory and if I remember right you cant do both.

I had forgotten about the mask fit option. Duh!! I remember wondering how I would check it lying down since the fit changes from an upright position. I could just see myself getting a shower when I picked up the machine to read the screen . I will work on it tonight minus the water!!

Thanks Slinky, I have been wondering what my AHI's and other numbers were, and this helpful tip will be very useful! Thanks so much. I have been using my cpap now for 24 days, and I have been sleeping very well. This tip will help answer some questions for me. Thanks again

Scott, if for any reason Slinky's good tip doesn't work, it would be because the person who set up your machine for you didn't turn on that feature. In that event, you *would* have to either take the machine back to them to have them enable that feature. Or go into the clinical menu to turn it on yourself.

The other thing to know is that the overnight data can be seen only before 12 noon of the following day. After 12 noon it's wiped clean to be ready for the next sleep session.

Rested Gal,
I was able to get all of the efficacy data with no problems! Thanks for you input. I may have missed that info from the RT when I had gotten my machine. I was given over 1.5 hours with her to explain the machine and get fitted for the mask, and I am sure I could have forgotten her telling me about it. Thank you so much for everyone's help.
