How often should you clean your masK. ? Realisticly

Post by Dave2you » Sun Jul 08, 2007 6:17 pm

I Know you ask Some people and the will say every day. Soak for an hour, run through Decontamination sprays and Agents, air dried three hours before use..

others will say they rinse it with tap water once a month if that.

what is the happy medium here,

Right Now, I hang my mask each morning so all moisture Comes out

once a week I Scrub it down inside and out with mild dishwater detergent-antibacterial including the hose. I hook it back up and turn the machine with mask lower than base blowing out water For twenty minutes into a clean towel.

Then hang. go and clean and scrub the humidifier tank.

I can't imagine doing this every single day. then again, I don't want a long infection either.

You should do a search.....this has been discussed weekly forever.

It depends what is comfortable for you and what works best. I have very oily skin....so if I do not wash at least the cushion on my mask daily it leaks and just gives me nothing but problems. I wash everything every other day. I dont soak anything....just give a wash. I wash the cushion daily and dump and dry the humidifier daily. Others will tell you they have never washed any of their equipment and it is doing fine. Some will say it is impossible for mold to grow (I dont agree with that) and others will tell you that they have actually found mold in the hose.

I would say that if you are making sure the hose drys out everyday that maybe once a week is ok for you. But it is really ultimatly you that has to come up with a system that works for you.

Jennmary is right. It's whatever you are comfortable with. I wipe my mask daily with a BZK wipe and clean it weekly with dawn dishwashing liquid then a vinegar and water soak.

I bounced around like everyone at first as to what I should do.. this is what I settled on

1) I bought an extra cushion and clip for my Quattro, this allows me to pop the cushion out each morning pop the clean one in and sometime during the day I wash the last night's cushion and clip in warm water and Ivory soap. I then place it in a night stand drawer where it will air dry in the closed drawer until it gets cycled back in the next morning

2) I clean the entire mask in Ivory soap every Saturday.

3) Every to weeks I pull the hose off clean it with ivory soap and then rinse with a 1/3 to 2/3 vinegar solution and let it dry. I have an extra hose on order which I plan to do the same thing as the mask on a weekly basis..

4) also on Saturday I clean the humidifier tank with soap/ every two weeks I use vinegar and water
