Dr. Bronner's soap - interesting story

Post by JZ » Sun Jul 08, 2007 8:20 am

Some of us use Dr. Bronner's soap to clean our xpap masks and hoses or for the zillion other uses for this pure castile liquid soap. If you have ever looked at the weird, wacky religious/philosophical messages printed everywhere on the soap bottle label, you may have wondered if Dr. Bronner (who died in 1997) was, well, crazy.

National Public Radio had a fascinating story on Dr. Bronner and his magic soap this morning:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... d=11813678

Dr. Bronner was, in fact, committed to a mental institution, which he escaped from and went on to begin his soap empire. Sara Lamm is the director of a new documentary film, Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox. I can't wait to see the film. Dr. Bronner may have been extremely obsessed and eccentric, but also was a genius.

I have some Dr. Bonners soap and haven't used it because I wasn't sure if the lavendar or peppermint "oil" might be something to stay away from. Couldn't find " unscented" or "plain" So, I take it it is OK or is there something better.
Do i remember a post that said the smell of the scents stay with the mask??

Dr Bronner's Magic Soapbox

Post by gasp » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:11 pm

My TiVo recorded The Green and a commercial there said Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox would be playing. I missed the actual documentary as I didn't watch TV to see the advertisement until it was too late. Here is the scoop on this documentary of Dr. Bronner's work. Interesting for Bronner fans.

I wash my masks and tubes with the Peppermint. Dr. Bronner's. The scent is TERRIBLY FAINT and not at all irritating. I highly recommend this.

Don't worry about the scents in the Dr. Bronner's. Unless you have a personal allergy to using the soap on your skin, you should be fine using them on your xpap equipment.

If worried, do an allergy test on your skin.

Cheers,
Barbara

Dr Bonner's soap

Post by KAZ » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:42 pm

Thats good news Babette in that I ordered some of the good Doctor;s soap to wash my face with before I go to bed. I will use it on my mask as well. I did see the doc on him, very interesting. The company still gives back 70% of the net profit from sales. Regards

I've been using it for shower gel the past few days. I'm minty fresh in places I never was before...

LOL,

Babette. Do you know if it by chance comes unscented...Our vitamin cottage does not carry it but maybe I should look elsewhere if it does. Not sure hose head hubby will do scented. Thanks J (Mrs. Oreo)

Website: http://www.drbronner.com/main.html

Baby-Mild:
Unscented: No Essential Oil
A mild, smooth soap for sensitive skin (but still be sure to keep it out of the eyes).

Ingredients: Water, Saponified Organic Coconut & Olive oils (w/ retained Glycerin), Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Vitamin E

Good luck finding this locally. You might have to buy it on the web.

Seriously - the peppermint fragrance is so VERY VERY FAINT. Don't think hubby will NOTICE enough to mind.

Cheers,
B.

I use Dr. Bronner's Lavender and find it leaves a very slight hint of lavender behind. I wish it left more, but it does help (just slightly) to help cover the nasty medicinal odor of the plastic.

What about liquid vs bar Dr B's? Both equally usable for CPAP equipment?

YUP! I think the liquid is more convenient, but then, I hate bar soap. I don't use it for anything. I just hate the goopy mess of the bar slopping all over the place.

Both work equally well for any type of cleaning. Just your personal preference on delivery method.

Cheers,
B.
