Pressure in ears any suggestions?

Post by magpie » Sat Jul 07, 2007 8:45 am

As a newbie I do not know if this is normal. The tech that did my titration the other night told me it was probably due to having some sinus congestion. But last night I was totally clear and the back pressure when I swallowed felt like I was going to blow out my eardrums. I have a very low PSI of 8-10. Is this normal and will I learn to adjust to it? I would open my mouth to try to clear it but you know what that accomplishes when hooked up to the machine. LOL.

I have that if I dont use the ramp feature. I have to use ramp so that my ears can adjust to the pressure gradually...then I am fine. You might want to try the ramp feature.

Happens to me too... Not a really big problem, your ears are just reacting like they are supposed to in situations where there is a difference in pressure.

I have had 9 operations on my ears and I have alot of scar tissue. During my titration study and during my mask fitting the pressure in my ears from the nasal only masks was painful...so I have a full face mask. I think all that air blowing directly into my nose was too much. However, I did just get a new Liberty and as soon as I figure out how to hook it up (the hose doesn't connect to it!?) I'm hoping it will be ok since I'll be able to alternately breathe through my mouth. For some people, the nasal only masks just aren't the right thing.

Thanks all! I will try a full face when I visit my DME. I will need one for those times when I cannot breathe through my nose due to allergies or colds anyway.

What I had to do was lower my pressure because of pain and fluid in my ears. It might not be the best solution, but I still get good therapy without the ear problems.
