What brand of soap do you use to clean your mask?

Post by ICantGetNoSleep » Sat Jun 30, 2007 9:14 pm

After letting my mask soak in "Ivory Classic" soap for over an hour, I find there is a white "film" on parts of my mask. Am I letting the mask soak to long or am I using the wrong soap? What soap (brand name) do you use to clean your mask?

'Nother vote for Dawn

Post by geoDoug » Sun Jul 01, 2007 12:18 am

When I started with my CPAP and first found this place, one of my first thoughts was an almost immediate inferiority complex resulting from all of the gyrations some people go through in keeping their equipment clean. I've since come to terms with the fact that the "cleaning instructions" in the user's manual are a guideline (and that's all they are) and there is no wrong answer.

So I use Dawn about once/week. I don't even "soak" everything. I just wash everything well enough to be squeaky-clean (literally in the case of the humidifier). It doesn't take much if I stay on top of things.

Doug.

Dawn dish washing liquid. Followed by a vinegar(1 part) and water(3 parts) soak, and rinse very well.

I use Neutrogena liquid in the convenient pump bottle. Costco stocks it, and a bottle lasts me over a year. I think Dr. Bronner's would be good, and has a far cooler label, but this dispenser is better.

I use Ivory bar soap and rinse immediately. I think the scented dish soaps might be responsible for the residue you are seeing.

Best wishes,
Bill

Me too. I don't soak in the Dawn, just the vinegar. Seems to work fine.

I've been using Dawn lately, and I like it best. The Orange smells pretty good, too.

somewhere in the info . they say to "allow mask to only stay in the cleaning solution as little time as needed"

I assume this really is saying not to soak the mask just wash it rinse it and get out of the soap that (leaving it in) would create a film I think

Baby shampoo. It leaves no residual smell at all.

Dawn dishwashing liquid (whatever "flavor" happens to be under the kitchen sink....usually the Blue)
Wash in hot sudsy....let soak for awhile....use my fingers to go over the seals and forehead piece.....rinse in hot water.....then soak in COLD water.....shake dry and also use a "flour sack" dish towel to complete the drying.

(just washed my old UMFF, yesterday)

Is Ivory available in liquid format?

I have been using the Neutrogena liquid face soap which was recommended by a pharmacist. Recently I discovered that ResMed recommended the plain Ivory liquid soap or baby shampoo. I tried the baby shampoo, which is cheaper, and it worked just fine. I even liked the scent although ResMed said that you should not use anything that had an added scent!!!!
