I fried my machine!

Post by robbieh » Fri Jun 29, 2007 7:42 pm

This morning when I woke up... I went through the routine, emptying the humidifier, looking at the numbers on my machine which were worse than the night before and then downloaded the data onto my computer. Surprise surprise... all that was on there was black lines and strange starts and stops. My machine hit the skids. Off to the DME for the 4th time in two weeks... I'm so embarrased! Of course it would be my luck to have the same RT on all those visits who is also a cpaper. Now my machine is in the shop and I have a loaner. I must have poured water into the it when I got wrapped up in the tubing. Tonight, i'm putting weights on the machine to make it more stable so it can't tip. What a crummy design! Who can behave well in their sleep esp when they have sleep disorders? Then there are the cats who love to step on the pretty buttons...

I'm sorry your machine is toast. I'm having a hard time picturing you getting wrapped up in your tubing. One tip from another member I use to help rainout also keeps the hose out of my way during the night. I put the machine on a sturdy stool by the head of the bed with the hose tucked between the box mattress and the top mattress, coming out at the head, bringing it up and over the center of my pillow. It is just the right length to be out of my way and allow me to turn from side to side. Being between the mattresses keeps the hose warmer and reduced rainout. Maybe this would work to help you wrangle your hose : )

You could try velcro on the bottom of the machine instead of weights.

Bummer!

I attach my hose either to the headboard or when I travel, pinned to the sheets using one of those hair scrunchies with a twist tie. That might help in the future.

Keep mine on the floor and it allows me plenty of freedom to roll over.
I just want to go back to sleep!

Have you tried a couple of hose clips?

Or you can make your own. Clips from staples and straps from home depot/lowes. Costs $1 or less each.

you all have given me some great ideas... i woke up at 5:30 dreaming of ways to keep my machine grounded. Last night i used my roomie's ankle weights that have velcro on them and velcroed the machine to the carpet. In the process I somehow also turned the humidity off too which was not pleasant. I like the idea of clipping the bottom of the tubing to my bed as well.

Who on earth would design a delicate machine with such an easy to spill water container right next to it for people with sleep disorders? I know... must be those sleep docs who diagnose and disappear. sigh

I am not sure that a 10 footer would help... I'd just have 4 more feet to wrap around me I think the problem is that the machine is lightweight and easy to pull over so that water sloshes into the delicate electronics. If I can find a way to keep the tubing from yanking on the machine when I'm resteless, that would take care of the problem. But it has to be practical for when I travel.

Thanks, Andy, but actually, it's somebody else's thinking - I read it in on this forum once - a long time ago...

Good memory for a good ideas, I guess.
