Exhaust noise

Hi everyone:

Have switched to a Respironics Comort Gel Nasal mask for about a month.
Love the mask, very comfortable, not much leaking. The only thing that is driving me slightly batty is the noise from the exhaust port. Any suggestions on how to cut down on this? Any help much appreciated.

My ResMed Ultra Mirage FFM makes really annoying sounds too, sometimes it makes a whistling sound it drives me nuts.

My solution was to wear ear plugs but after months of sleeping with expanding foam plugs my ears are hurting from it.

I will have to buy a new mask with a better exhaust port... or modify the one I have now.

I was thinking of getting some rubber tubing and rigging up somthing to pipe the exhaust away from me. I might do that tonight infact.

I will make some sort of cover and attach the tube to it. then glue the cover with tube over the exhaust ports. I will attach the hose with zip ties along the machines hose and away from me.

I will write here after I try it, I might ruin the mask too but its either that or buy a new one.

I have the same mask, different machine but I know what you are talking about. The weird thing with mine is the noise, usually whistling, comes and goes. The best results for me have been routing the hose over my head, not to the side.

Maybe there's a "plug" (or two) for that, too....

Apparently there's nothing sacred in this therapy.

Does it know any tunes that you like?

I've seen posts where someone had taken the exhaust vent out of theirs and put it in backwards....or some such thing.

Other than some air coming out of mine, I wouldn't say it "whistles". I'd check that rubber insert with the holes (exhaust vent) and see if it's properly seated.

I'm waiting for some bright enterprising youngster to come up with the NECESSARY "front and back plug" to ENSURE full pressure and NO LEAKS while sleeping.

I can't say it more plainly without grossing everyone out. But you know what I mean.
