Newbie says thanks

Post by Guest » Tue Jun 26, 2007 8:14 am

Just a few words of thanks for all the folks on this message board who have helped me the past few weeks.

My sleep study indicated mild apnea and prescribed 6 cm H2O CPAP. The DME showed up and presented me with a CPAP machine and a choice of three masks; a full face, a Comfort Gel, and a nasal pillow design. He said the nasal pillow wasn't recommended for a side sleeper (which I am). I chose the Comfort Gel. He "fit" it on my face, had me sign the purchase papers and left. That's the last I heard from him.

Although I think the Comfort Gel is a good mask, there were nights when it suffocated me. I had good nights and bad nights but overall I wasn't anywhere near compliant.

Then came your message board. I started using some of the recommendations around CPAP machine placement, hose routing and mask selection. I ordered a Twilight NP mask, applied the "rubber band" fix and it has worked great, all night, every night. I even found that I could lose the Breathe Easy Strips that I've used for years.

Had it not been for this forum, I don't think I would have continued CPAP therapy. Your letters showed me that I was not the only one having problems and showed me potential solutions. I suspect there are many folks out there like me reading your posts daily. I know this is the first forum I've ever responded to. But I couldn't let this pass without a thank you. Keep up the good work..
