time for a new mask....mines good, but is there better?

Post by debstieb » Sun Jun 24, 2007 8:01 pm

I have a fisher & paykel that I started out with, and I am comfortable with it. I tried the nasal pillow mask and did not like it. Is there a mask out there that is "perfect"

I know that everyone is different, but is there any mask that stands out for most people? I have a narrow face and small features.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thnx,

Deb

You don't say which Fisher & Paykel nasal mask you have. The HC 407 Flex-Fit and HC 406 Flex-Fit are the same mask except the 407 is a Small and the 406 is a Petite.

I had pretty good luck w/the 407 but it was a skosh too long for me. I didn't know about the 406 or I would have tried it.

The Respironics ComfortLite 2 Simple Nasal Cushion worked well for me. I needed the Medium Simple Nasal Cushion instead of the Small tho.

I've had my best luck w/comfort, fit and seal w/the Respironics Simplicity Small. It is more a simple nasal cushion than a true nasal cushion. Shorter and narrower. The center strap is WAY too long but easily shortened to fit. I found the flexibility between forehead and bridge of nose provide much greater comfort than the rigid plastic of so many masks.

Oooops! I just read your sig and see you have the HC 405 Flex-Fit which is pretty much the same mask as the Aclaim2, as far as the nasal cushion itself, with a change in headgear.

The Resmed Mirage Vista intrigued me, but it was too large for me. HOWEVER, Resmed has now come out w/the Kidsta, a pediatric version of the Vista which I strongly suspect would be just the right size for me. If and when I tire of the Simplicity the Kidsta or the HC 406 Flex-Fit will be the next mask I try.

I started with a FlexiFit 405 for which my local DME charged me a small fortune (about $250). The mask leaked all the time and I had to tie the headgear really tight (marks on the face were almost permanent). When I bought the machine from cpap.com I also bought a ComfortGel. I bought and tried other masks (ComfortCurve, OptiLife, ComfortFull2) but I always return to the ComfortGel.

Thanks for input. I think the 406 sounds like a good idea for me. I do know what you are talking about with the marks on the face. (ugh), I look like I have been beat up, and it stays that way most of the day.

Then you are most definitely adjusting the straps TOO TIGHT! The mask must be able to fill with and hold air to CUSHION your face and nose and to seal.

I have tried to loosen the straps/mask and it leaks like crazy. That is why I want to try a new mask, but I am used to this one and am not sure if I want to change.

How does the comfort gel compare to the mirage active for anyone who has tried both? They look similar.

...and the flexi fit looks similar as well. It doesn't show the head gear with it. Would that be the same as the other two? Sorry if these are dumb questions.

The cushion of the FlexiFit405 is three times thicker than the on on the Comfort Gel. Needless to say that it does not inflate and the only way to stop leaks is tighten straps.

Hi Deb!
I am like you have also stared with FlexiFit 405 and despite all discomfort still using it. You can read my complete mask’s report here.
