I posted this question and had it answered yesterday by another member which I truly appreciate but today someone cautioned me to call an internet cpap equip provider and when I did was given conflicting information although they admitted they weren't software experts on the Encore Pro software...just used to sell it.
The situation is we have Encore Pro ver 1.8i and reader. Our DME that we are leasing the m series cpap w/cflex machine from has a different version of the Encore Pro software and all of our info. set up on their computer under thier version. When we put in our computer we set it not to erese.
If we have read thier smart card and downloaded information into our computer with differnt ver. will the DME be able to tell we've done that?
(interned provider seemed to think the version difference would alter the card info.)We are now concerned that we could upset our DME.
Encore Software w/Reader and DME
You could contact Respironics to find out for certain.
But I'll take a stab at it anyway. Don't blame me if I'm wrong.
My guess is that Encore Pro only writes to the card when you explicitly tell it to either by erasing the data, or intentionally setting something on it. (I think Encore Pro might have a feature where it can write the prescription to the card, but I'm not certain.)
As long as you tell Encore Pro that you'll be giving the card back to the same person, and it shouldn't erase the data, then I would expect you to be safe.
Why be so concerned about upsetting your DME. Remember, you are the customer, they should be the ones making sure they don't upset you because you can always take your business elsewhere.

If all you are doing is reading the data from the card, I can't imagine their would be any evidence of a "read action" on the card for the DME to see. Even if there was, I would be surprised if they would confront you about it. If they did, kindly remind them that the medical information stored on the card belongs to you and ask them why they have a problem with you accessing your own medical information. In this era of increased privacy regulation, it would be interesting to hear their response to this.
