I'm puzzled?? I have been on cpap for about 16 months now and I feel much better. Felt great first month and still feel much better than before cpap however; some days I still feel real tired but a push through but some days I feel I must take a nap. The nite before the nap days is no different I still follow the same prep routine (mouth taping etc. etc.) The days I take a NAP the nap feels like I have been asleep 20-30 minutes but when I wake up it has been 2-3 hours!!!!! I feel so much more rested than any of the overnight sleeps. During my naps I have nonstop dreams that are so vivid and real. Why are my NAPS so successful? I am not complaining about my over nite sleeps I feel much, much better than before cpap and I am now getting about 7.5-8 hours sleep. Thanks for any input.
Nite Sleeps VS. Naps???
I wish I knew. I nap very infrequently, but when I do it's great. I just think everyone needs a nap now and then.

I am not a Doctor, but if I understand this stuff right, we sleep in cycles.. stage one, two, three, four, REM, two, three, four, REM, etc.. Or something close to that.
But each cycle is not the same.. the first cycles have longer stage 3 and 4, and these get shorter as the night goes on.
Stages 3 and 4 are the "deep sleep" that we with OSA have been missing.
The result is that sleeping LONGER doesn't get us more 3 & 4, but sneaking in an afternoon nap does!
That's my excuse anyway.
I've been on the hose for about six weeks, and I look forward to that little extra nap on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Maybe you feel less pressure to sleep when you are napping. There is no worrying about what is going on tommorow or praying that you will be comforable enough to sleep. There are no expectations with a nap. If you sleep....great, if not you arent going to be waking up and still having to race to work or anything. For whatever reason my bed always feels more comfortable during nap time than it does at night. This is just my opinion, I could be way off.

Vester, just to be sure I understand correctly... you are using your CPAP during the naps too, right?

I love a good nap in the afternoon....really refreshes me and allows me to go to the golf course at 7 in the evening and play a round of golf when I otherwise I would probably be too tired.
I don't use my cpap when napping. I tried it a few times and found I was only having a couple Hipoapneas so it didn't seem worth the trouble. I never have any AI the first hour of sleep anyway and that's about how long I nap.
I have been getting only 5 hours at night most of this week so I was really dragging today and was able to sleep for over 2 hours this afternoon. I feel like a million bucks tonight and just got off the golf course walking 18 holes and carrying my bag. I hope I can go to sleep tonight though.
